Sophia Bush has landed a lead role in Charlize Theron’s NBC drama pilot, Hatfields & McCoys, a modern-day take on the infamous feud between the infamous warring families.

Deadline reports the One Tree Hill alum is set to play Dr. Emma McCoy, the eldest child of the McCoys and shining star of the family.

Set in modern-day Pittsburgh, a startling death reignites the feud between the two legendary families. Unleashing decades of resentment, the blue-collar McCoys will put the Hatfields’ wealth and power at risk as they go to war for control of the city.

She joins cast members Virginia Madsen as Eloise McCoy; Jesse Lee Soffer (ex-Will, ATWT) as Patrick McCoy; and Patrick Flueger (The 4400) as Jack McCoy.

Theron is attached to executive produce the series. John Glenn (Eagle Eye) will pen the script and executive provide alongside Theron, A.J. Dix, Dawn Olstead and Beau Flynn. Michael Mayer (Smash) will direct the project from ABC Studios.

For nine seasons, Sophia Bush starred as Brooke Davis on The CW’s One Tree Hill. After the series ended its run last April, the actress landed a starring role in the CBS comedy Partners. CBS cancelled the series in November after failing to attract an audience.

Bush is repped by WME and Joan Green.
