Move over Salvatore brothers! Elena Gilbert is about to have a new and extremely hot man in her life!

When Elena pursues higher education this fall, it’s only natural that she take in the sights and experiences of all things collegiate – including the men! Shaun Sipos (Life Unexpected, Melrose Place) has been cast in a recurring role on The Vampire Diaries for season five. E! Online broke the casting news, sharing that Sipos will play Aaron, a man who has experienced dark family tragedies that aren’t all that unfamiliar to Elena. College is his chance to escape his messy and complicated past. Meeting Elena might make things easier since the two will be bonding over their histories.

While the role is initially a recurring one, there’s a chance that Aaron will stick around for much longer. What will happen when Elena forms a bond with a new guy? Julie Plec has promised that Damon and Elena will be happy for the time being in season five, but could Aaron bring some tension into the picture?

Guess we’ll have to wait and see when The Vampire Diaries returns Thursday, October 10 at 8 pm ET/PT on the CW.

My Take: Shaun Sipos is an extremely talented actor (not to mention easy on the eyes!). I’ve been in love (and lust) with him since he played Lux’s amazingly sweet teacher on Life Unexpected. If you’ve never seen that show, you may want to watch it to tide you over until The Vampire Diaries returns this fall. While I’m all for seeing Damon and Elena happy (the girl deserves some happiness after everything she’s been through in the last year alone), a new guy being brough into the fold has the potential to freshen things up a bit. Plus, I just love having Sipos on my tv screen!
