4. The Soundtrack
Music is very important to Hollyoaks and one of the major reasons I believe the show had a hard time getting screened in the US. Almost every episode of Hollyoaks will open with a quick introduction montage setting up the stage for the episode, set to the tune of actual popular music.
Whether it’s a hit from a big name or an independent band, you’ll never find yourself disappointed with the selection chosen by the music department. It’s a compliment to the realism of the series as characters walk into the Pub and hear One Direction and Katy Perry or chilling at home while listening to Justin Bieber. It may seem like a minor thing but it’s this level of realism that makes the soaps’ presentation that much better.
To make things better, Channel 4 (the station that airs Hollyoaks) created an official Spotify playlist featuring tunes that aired in the previous night’s installment, giving the artist more exposure! How cool is that?
Music from established artists is a major piece of primetime television, why shouldn’t it be for soap operas as well?
It sounds so good, but I’ve already got too much to watch with Days, GH, and Coronation Street!
