ABC’s upcoming Astronaut Wives Club will feature a popular face from The CW. Hart of Dixie star and The Young and the Restless alum Wilson Bethel (ex-Ryder) has booked a role as astronaut Scott Carpenter on alphabet network’s mid-season series.
The series, from Fake Empire’s Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who created Gossip Girl and Hart of Dixie, is a 60s set drama telling the story of the women who stood beside some of the biggest heroes in American history during the height of the space race. Savage is writing the pilot, based on the Lily Koppel novel of the same name. JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Odette Annable, Dominique McElligott, Desmond Harrington, Bret Harrison and Joel Johnstone star in the series.
Bethel’s character is described as the most laid-back of all the astronauts. His on-screen wife is played by Chuck alum Yvonne Strahovski (who also has ties to Fake Empire’s Schwartz). Per Deadline, Bethel’s new role will not impact his main job on CW’s Hart of Dixie. Wive Club, which was supposed to launch last summer, is a 10-episode limited series. The actor will film his new gig while Dixie is on hiatus.
In addition to moonlighting in primetime, Wilson Bethel has also entered into a deal with Warner Bros. to write a drama project for the CW.
