The monster of the week in Sleepy Hollow’s episode ‘Blood & Fear’ isn’t really a monster but a weapon that creates monsters. Pandora is up to her wicked ways again! This time she wrecks some havoc by turning a meek office worker into a serial killer.
A Dangerous Dance
Pandora pulls her latest trick from her box, a knife that once belonged to Jack the Ripper. The weapon attaches itself to a human and turns it’s owner into a killer. After treating lovesick Nelson to a seductive dance at a bar, Pandora leaves the knife on his nightstand. The next day Nelson uses it to murder his romantic rival.
Recalling his own experience with Jack the Ripper, Ichabod, with the help of Abbie naturally, is able to figure out that Jack the Ripper is really a series of individuals who the knife possesses. The knife welds itself to it’s bearer, feeding off of the blood from its victims. Only disease can stop it. Abbie and Ichabod track down Nelson and Ichabod injects himself with malaria as he is stabbed thus separating the knife and Nelson.
What’s going on?
This episode was very much a stand alone episode yet had some build to the over all arc that has been set up for the season. We still don’t know why Pandora has come to Sleepy Hollow and what her interest is in the Witnesses. However, after a spooky appearance while Abbie was cradling an injured Ichabod, Abbie seems more alarmed than she was previously. I think it was the idea of losing Ichabod and that Pandora is a threat to both of them. I wonder if during the fight against evil, Ichabod and Abbie may have taken a loved on away from Pandora. Perhaps she was Facebook friends with Moloch.
Ichabod observed that both Abbie and him had been exposed to evil early in life. Another thing they have in common that makes them feel bonded. Sleepy Hollow likes to connect its monsters to Ichabod and Abbie’s past. Maybe they’ll be battling a lot more demons from their childhood this year. Abbie’s biggest battle, the one she has been avoiding, is with her father.
Jenny and Joe were able to track down the Shard of Anubis only to be out maneuvered by another badass relic hunter named Sophie, who Jenny happens to see a lot of herself in. It’s clear that Jenny is starting to feel a little uneasy with the fact that so many are after the mysterious shard. I suspect the artifact is something that one would not want to see fall into the wrong hands. It will be interesting to see how this all connects with the main story line later on.
Other notable moments:
- Ichabod is not an American citizen yet but the obviously lovestruck Zoe said she would help him through the process of gaining his citizenship.
- Ichabod and Abbie share a sweet moment at the end when while under medication, Ichabod intiates a fist bump with Abbie.
- Dani the lab tech makes another appearance.
- Ichabod is still working to get the Archives declare a historical landmark.
- Pandora is a master of disguises, this week turning into a vampy club girl. It reminds me of the Succubus from last season.
