“Know thy self, know thy enemy.”

This week’s Sleepy Hollow episode, entitled ‘The Art of War,’ was a nice follow up to the previous two episodes. We got some surprise twists, a kiss and new big bad. Also the shard gave Jenny mutant super powers. How cool was that?

So Powerful

In last week’s episode, Jenny and Joe got the shard back from Nevins. The shard absorbed into the palm of Jenny’s hand. This week we got to see its effects. While flirting kickboxing with Joe, Jenny starts to glow and go white-eyed. The shard has given Jenny a jolt of mystical energy, something that a mortal is not meant to house.

Wanting to track down Jenny and the shard, Nevins summons Pandora’s box and releases some shard-sniffing attack demons to fetch Jenny. The Sleepy Gang quickly figures out that the demons are unbeatable. How do you stop the unbeatable? By making it stop itself.

Joe, Abbie and Ichabod stage a bungee sneak attack on the demons and put Jenny’s blood on their backs. The demons end up attacking and killing each other as a result.

A Little Familiar

We got a surprise twist tonight when Sophie turned out to be one of the good guys. As the Sleepy Gang is heading back to Jenny, Nevins and Sophie stop them. Nevins is about to put a bullet in Joe when Sophie turns on him. Sophie is with the FBI and has been working undercover for Agent Reynolds.

I did not see this one coming. Sophie a white hat but why was Reynolds hiding this from Abbie? Can Reynolds be trusted? Abbie certainly seemed bother by the fact that he kept this from her.

One thing that really stood out to me during this episode regarding Sophie is her similarity to Betsy Ross. She looks a lot like her. She’s undercover and fighting the forces of evil. She also seemed rather enamored with Ichabod in a very Betsy Ross sort of way. I can’t help but wonder if there is a connection. Could she be a descendant of Betsy’s?

A few of my favorite things:

  • At the end of the episode, a possessed Jenny calls upon Pandora and her scary boyfriend. We’ll learn more about him next week. Hint: He’s a god.
  • Ichabod senses that Joe has feelings for Jenny and encourages him to talk to her. He gives her a kiss instead.
  • Abbie beats Crane in a game of chess. He was using strategy and she was using her instinct.
  • “Sometimes it seems as though the unbeatable enemy is the 21st century.”-Ichabod
