As viewers saw on today’s episode of Days of our Lives, Ciara Brady (Vivian Jovanni) was raped by friend and step-brother Chase Jennings (Jonathon McClendon) is a shocking plot twist. The actress spoke with Soap Opera Digest about her reaction to the story.
“When Albert [Alarr, co-executive producer] and Josh [Griffith, co-head writer] told me that Ciara was going to be raped, I was nervous at first, but also very grateful to be getting the opportunity to explore this complex and layered storyline,” said Jovanni.
Given Days of our Lives’ advanced production schedule, the actress kept the story development to herself, not even sharing the details with her parents.
Jovanni says she and co-star Jonathan McClendon wanted the scenes to be as “realistic and spontaneous as possible” and spent a lot of time together.
She feels the story has helped her grow as an actress and is grateful for being given the chance to bring it to life. “Playing emotional material like this has opened my eyes as an actor, because I never expected that scene to get as real as it did for me.”
Soap Opera Digest will have more from Vivian Jovanni in the new issue of their magazine, on sale next week.
