General Hospital star Kirsten Storms will temporarily vacate her role as Maxie Jones this summer. Days of our Lives fan favorite Molly Burnett (ex-Melanie) will assume the role beginning in July.
Daytime Confidential broke news of the recast, which an ABC rep confirmed. Storms, who joined the GH cast in 2004, previously stepped away from the role in 2011-2012 for medical reasons and was recast with soon-to-exit Days of our Lives star Jen Lilley.
GH is planning a major story for the Maxie character this summer as her relationship with hunky cop Nathan West (Ryan Paevey) will be tested by the arrival of his ex-wife Claudette (played by the recently cast Bree Williamson).
Burnett has experience carrying a heavy work load, having been featured prominently in front burner storylines on Days of our Lives after her 2008 debut. Burnett departed DAYS in 2012, but returned for short-runs in 2014-2015 and guest starred in a handful of episodes in early 2016. The actress has held steady primetime work since exiting DAYS, appearing True Blood, Jessie, Longmire and CSI: Cyber.
My Take: I love Molly Burnett; she’s a very capable actress and her DAYS character was a lot like Maxie in many ways. While I’m happy she’s found work on a show I love, it’s also bittersweet. Hopefully fans will give her a chance.
It’s no secret we’re fans of Kirsten Storms, so we’re wishing her all the best and hopes she’s able to return soon.
