Open Your Eyes

Anna and Valentin talk Shakespeare.

Anna and Valentin talk Shakespeare.

I love the sexy cat and mouse game between Anna and Valentin. This is the perfect kind of story for GH’s heroine. Unlike some of the other “mysterious person with  a secret” stories we have been getting, this tale seem planned out and is utilizing history. It’s so lovely to see classic Anna Devane again.

Valentin has a connection to Anna’s past but what is it? In a very odd way, he’s sort of Anna’s type. A far cry from the likes of Duke and Robert as far as morality goes maybe but he oozes a similar sort of intellectual magnetism. His devilish charm is comparable to David Hayward, All My Children’s villainous, necromancing doctor and Anna’s ex-husband. Valentin’s connection to Anna seems to throw back to some of her early WSB years or during her time when she suffered amnesia. “I feel like we might have been friends…in another life,” Valentin told her. There is a rumor that Valentin may be Anna’s brother. That could be interesting but, due to the flirtatious vibe between them, I have a feeling that they were more likely lovers once upon a time.

Beauty and the Beast

general-hospital-winter-promo-2016-liz-francoFranco, not knowing how to be the hero of the story this time, decided to keep tabs on Tom by tracking him with his cell phone. Franco is so enraged by Tom’s presence that he’s not thinking things through and this could all very easily backfire. As Liesl told him, Liz specifically asked that he not go after Tom and what he is doing is illegal. To him though “the only thing that is important is keeping Elizabeth safe.” Franco found out that Tom is at General Hospital and rushed to protect Liz. He ended up losing his temper and the altercation with Tom resulted with Franco being suspended for two days and left Liz shaken. I understand Franco wanting to kill Tom and I can also understand why this is upsetting for Liz. Later, Franco made the poor choice to seek advise from his mother Heather only to be angrily told that he can’t shed his dark side. While Liz explained to Griffin that Franco is very protective of the people he cares about, Tom bumped into Kiki and began to follow her. Yeah…Tom can totally die.

The story line with Tom, Franco and Liz is pretty heavy but for the most part really well done. The actors continue to be the best part. Everyone is bringing their A game. This story is very controversial though and I can understand why it may seem a bit much for some. I like it but as I mentioned in my previous review, this would have been better if Franco and Liz had already taken the next steps in their relationship first. Thursday’s episode could be evidence for that argument. It was a good episode but a little hard to watch at the same time. It felt like a step back for both characters. Franco’s insecurity was laid on a little thick and his repeated threats towards Tom might as well have been a big neon sign reading “Murder Mystery Ahead!” Liz’s uncertainty had some fans flashing back to the uncharacteristic fickleness that has been written for the character the last four to five years. GH needs to allow Liz to actually fall in and out of love again. She hasn’t been in love for a long time.

  1. Also, they never even acknowledge how close Monica and Laura used to be. They should have scenes together since they have a grandson in common, too.

  2. Yes I would rather see Georgie also then Charlotte. I would rather see more Valerie then any new characters. I just want to know why they refuse to use Valerie more.

  3. I think it’s odd that Laura or Bobbie haven’t reached out to Liz either. I mean Bobbie and Liz actually had scenes together last week and no mention at all! Becky and Roger were everything in the promo. Thanks for reading!

  4. The return of Tom has me glued to my screen. It’s well done and it’s propelling Friz’s story Plus, Becky/Roger/Don are slaying it and adding KiKi to the mix makes it a semi-umbrella story. My only criticism is that Laura/Bobbie haven’t reached out to Liz.Tom’s release was in the papers. I’m buckled in for this ride and Becky/Roger are sultry as hell in the promo.
I haven’t embraced Valentine. The actor’s talented but it pisses me off that he’s at Wyndemere knowing that Tyler wanted to return. The airtime of newbie Charlotte pisses me off when we haven’t seen Aiden/Cam/Georgie in 10+ months. Anna/Valentin better not be siblings. I’d much prefer seeing them paired as opposed to spastic OTT useless Nina. She’s been an albatross since day one.
