The CW Orders Pilots for ‘Dynasty’ Reboot, Adventure Drama ‘Searchers’

Pilot season for The CW is beginning to take shape, with the network ordering pilots for two dramas – soapy reboot Dynasty and adventure-driven Searchers hoping to land a coveted slot on what will be an already crowded schedule for the 2017-2018 television season.

Dynasty is from Fake Empire’s Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (of The O.C. and Gossip Girl fame). Sallie Patrick (Revenge, Limitless) is writing the pilot with Schwartz and Savage, with the three serving as executive producers. Richard and Ester Shapiro, creators of the original series, are also involved. Fake Empire’s Lis Rowinski will co-executive produce Dynasty with the creative trio, hailing from CBS Television Studios and Fake Empire.

The original Aaron Spelling-produced Dynasty ran for nine seasons on ABC from 1981-1989. The CW’s version has been updated for a modern era and will be more diverse. Per the logline, “In an age where dynasties appear everywhere — from reality TV to the polling booths — this epic drama features the one percent in all its glitz and gloss, while exposing the dark underbelly: a corrupt world built on backroom deals, betrayal, and, in some cases, murder.”

The new series follows two of America’s wealthiest families, the Carringtons and the Colbys, as they feud for control over their fortunes and their children. The series will be told primarily through the perspectives of two women at odds: Fallon Carrington — daughter of billionaire Blake Carrington — and her soon-to-be stepmother, Cristal — a Hispanic woman marrying into this WASP family and America’s most powerful class.

Searchers is developed by The 100’s Jason Rothenberg and Greg Berlanti. The series is about a group of unlikely heroes who find themselves on the journey of a lifetime. Ten years after the death of their parents, a pragmatic brother and free-spirited sister are forced to team up when they learn that their mother’s terrifying and bizarre stories may be a road map to discovering the great legends, myths, and unexplained mysteries of the world.

Rothenberg is writing the pilot and will executive produce alongside Berlanti and Berlanti Productions’ Sara Schechter.

Should ‘Searchers’ receive a series order it will mark Berlanti’s sixth drama on currently airing on the network, which includes Arrow, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl and Riverdale.

Casting for both series will begin soon.
