A cryptic (or not-so) tweet from longtime Days of our Lives star Bryan Dattilo (Lucas) has fans wondering if the actor’s 20-plus year run is coming to an end (again). Reports say that may not be the case.

On Wednesday, Dattilo tweeted, “25 years. 2 months. 12 days. And 4 hours. Good run. Thanks to my Days family and fans. Enjoy Lucas while you can.” A message like that would have any fan riled up and ready to tweet their furor at what appears to be his pending departure. However, TV Insider reports the character is going to be rested, and the popular actor’s exit may be short-lived.

A rest could be good for Lucas, who hasn’t really had much to do since falling off the wagon last summer and going into recovery after the resurrection of his thought-to-be-deceased son Will Horton (played by Chandler Massey). Maybe some time away will give the creative team a chance to plot a new story for the character. Maybe Lucas can go visit his daughter Allie for a few months.

Bryan Dattilo originated the role of Lucas (then-Roberts) in 1993, playing the role until 2001. The character was “rested”, with Dattilo returning in 2002, where he remained until 2010. The actor returned in 2012.

The fan favorite will air through the fall due to Days of our Lives’ production schedule.
