In the highly anticipated culmination of TV Source’s Hollyoaks Week , we have a VERY special episode of the TV Source Podcast! On this episode you’ll hear our EXCLUSIVE interview conducted with Hollyoaks executive producer Bryan Kirkwood. In our interview, Kirkwood opens up about his time on the program, looking back on the past, discussing the present, and giving us plenty of teases for the future.
In 2006, the soap opera landscape was forever changed as Bryan Kirkwood took the reigns of the Channel 4 teen soap Hollyoaks. He refocused the show and introduced popular families such as the McQueens, ultimately completely transforming the program from a teen serial that occasionally tackled socially relevant storylines, to the critically acclaimed masterpiece whose quality now rivals and often surpasses the mainstays.
Under his leadership Hollyoaks has won plaudits and numerous awards for the issue-based storylines that underpin the narrative in the continuing drama, including domestic abuse, male rape and Motor Neurone Disease.
Bryan Kirkwood’s signature ability to tackle topical storylines while maintaining a focus on romance and annual stunts have made Hollyoaks a pleasure to watch over the last thirteen years.
