Guess who is checking back into ABC’s General Hospital? Soap alum Rebecca Budig will reprise her role as the sassy spitfire Hayden Barnes this summer! What kind of drama will this troublemaking con bring when she returns to Port Charles?
Entertainment Weekly was the first to report the news of Budig’s return to the long-running ABC serial. GH is being tight lipped about the return, but it’s safe to assume Hayden won’t be coming back alone.
The last time we saw Hayden was in 2017, writing an apology letter to her former fiancé Dr. Finn (Michael Easton) after leaving him on the day of their wedding! To make matters worse, she explained she lost their baby! We all believed her…until in her last on-screen appearance we saw a little baby bump as she rose from her desk! Her return couldn’t come at a worse time for the neurotic doctor, who has moved on with his life and found new love with super spy Anna Devane (Finola Hughes)! Looks like she’s back in time to lay her claim on her baby daddy from Anna!
Since leaving GH in late 2017, the actress has kept busy, landing a recurring role in the Jessica Alba-Gabrielle Union series L.A.’s Finest, a spinoff of the Will Smith film Bad Boys.
Rebecca Budig, formerly of Guiding Light and All My Children fame, originated the role of Hayden Barnes in 2015, signing a four-year contract with GH. Hayden came to Port Charles after being hired by Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst) to pose as Jake Doe aka Jason Morgan now known as Drew Cain’s (Billy Miller) wife in an effort to help him win Elizabeth Webber’s (Rebecca Herbst) heart.
After fans took a liking to Hayden, she was given a scandalous back story and a hot romance with Nikolas Cassadine (Tyler Christopher) and friendship with Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner). Turns out Hayden was actually Rachel Berlin, daughter of Madoff-like investment banker who duped innocents in a Ponzi scheme. It was later revealed Hayden’s mother Naomi (Robin Riker) had an affair with Elizabeth’s father Jeff, making she and Liz half-sisters.
General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. Episodes are also available on ABC.com and Hulu.
