73rd Primetime Emmy Awards Nominations

The 2021 Emmy nominations for the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards are here and full of some surprises and many expected nominees. This year HBO/HBO Max lead the pack with 230 nominations closely followed by Netflix with 229. Disney+ follows with 71, NBC with 46 and Apple TV+ with 34.

The Mandalorian and The Crown received the most nominations, each with 24. WandaVision follows with 23, The Handmaid’s Tale received 21, and Saturday Night Live got 21. Ted Lasso becomes the most nominated freshman series with 20 nominations. Other multi nominated series include Lovecraft Country and The Queen’s Gambit with 18 each and Mare of Easttown with 16.

Mj Rodriguez has also become the first transgender performer to receive an Emmy nomination in a major acting category. Jessica Walter also received a posthumous Emmy Award nomination for her ‘Archer’ voice role.

The Emmys take place on Sunday, Sept. 19 on CBS hosted by Cedric the Entertainer.
