Five episode short series I Am Groot premieres on Disney+ August 10. The Marvel series features several new and unusual characters, staring everyone’s favorite little tree, Baby Groot, voiced by Vin Diesel, who voices Groot in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.
The fourth and final season of FX’s Atlanta premieres in September. Season 4 finds Earn, Alfred ‘Paper Boi’ Miles, Darius, and Van back in their hometown. But the question is, has Atlanta changed or have they?
Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power premieres September 2. The epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings books, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and one of the greatest villains that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness. The final eight episodes of the final season of The Walking Dead premiere October 2. While the original series may be coming to an end, the universe will continue to expand with the addition of new spinoff series including one focusing on Daryl and one focusing on Maggie and Negan.
Tales of the Walking Dead will premiere on AMC August 14. The series consists of six original one-hour standalone episodes focused on both new and established characters within the walker apocalypse. Apple TV+ has renewed For All Mankind for a fourth season. The series explores what would have happened if the global space race had never ended. The series presents an aspirational world where NASA astronauts, engineers and their families find themselves in the center of extraordinary events seen through the prism of an alternate history timeline – a world in which the USSR beats the US to the moon. The third season took the series into the early ’90s with a high-octane race to a new planetary frontier: Mars. The Red Planet becomes the new front in the Space Race not only for the U.S. and the Soviet Union, but also an unexpected new entrant with a lot to prove and even more at stake. The characters find themselves going head-to-head as their ambitions for Mars come into conflict and their loyalties are tested, creating a pressure cooker that builds to a climactic conclusion.
AMC announced that Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira will reunite for a new series in the expanding universe around The Walking Dead. The series will continue the journey and love story of the Rick Grimes and Michonne characters.This series presents an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? The six episode limited series replaces the originally announced film series and will premiere in 2023.
Marvel has announced renewals and premiere windows for their upcoming animated Disney+ series. Spider-Man: Freshman Year will premiere in 2024. It follows Peter Parker on his way to becoming Spider-Man in the MCU, with a journey unlike we’ve ever seen and a style that celebrates the character’s early comic book roots. Charlie Cox will voice Daredevil, reprising his role from Daredevil and Spider-Man: No Way Home. The series will also return in Spider-Man: Sophomore Year. Season two of What If… will premiere in early 2023. The series has also been renewed for a third season. X-Men ’97, the continuation of the original X-Men animated series that explores new stories in the iconic ’90s timeline of the original series, will premiere fall 2023.
Midori Francis has joined the cast of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy. She will play a new first year surgical resident. She joins Alexis Floyd and Niko Terho who will also appear as series regulars and new residents. Season 19 premieres October 6.
Vindicators 2, the Rick and Morty spin-off short series, premiere on Adult Swim’s YouTube channel July 23. The ten episode season will premiere all at once. Answer the Vindibeacon and join your old pals Supernova, Vance Maxiumus, Alan Rails, Crocubot and Noob Noob as they fight crime, avert genocides, and yuk it up without Rick and Morty.
Fox’s comedy pilot Cindy Snow will not make the midseason schedule. The network prematurely announced a possible pick up during a pre-taped portion of their Upfronts presentation. Instead, Fox has allowed Warner Brothers to shop the series elsewhere. The series could still receive a pickup for the 2023-2024 season should it not find a network. The pilot follows Cindy Snow, a popular local meteorologist in Savannah, GA, but behind the cameras, she’s not nice. When a freak head injury at work triggers surreal glimpses of the future, Cindy’s life quickly unspools.
Guy Fieri hosts an all new culinary game show Guy’s Ultimate Game Night. Guy welcomes his celebrity and chef friends to the Flavortown Lounge for outrageously fun and entertaining food-inspired games. Premiering August 31 on Food Network, the series puts a culinary twist on classic party games as the celebrity contestants compete in front of a live studio audience for the chance to win prizes for their favorite charity. Chef Antonia Lofaso assists with all the action of the competition, as the celebrities play with food in the hands-on challenge and test their culinary knowledge with trivia and word puzzles. They must stay on their toes as they never know what Guy will throw their way.
St. Vincent, James Taylor and Joe Walsh are set to perform weeklong residencies on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert with house band Stay Human. St. Vincent will perform the week of July 25. James Taylor will perform the week of August 1. Joe Walsh will perform the week of August 8. This marks the first time the Late Show has hosted musicians to sit in for a weeklong residence with house band Stay Human. It is also the first time for each artist to perform with a late night house band as part of a music residency.
Copenhagen Cowboy is coming soon to Netflix. The series is a thrill-inducing, neon-drenched noir series set in six episodes about a young heroine, Miu who travels through Copenhagen’s criminal netherworld. The Danish series is a poetic thrill-inducing neon-noir series from the creator of the Pusher trilogy, Drive and The Neon Demon, Nicolas Winding Refn.
Zach Galligan, who played Billy Peltzer, the star of the original Gremlins film franchise, will guest star in HBO Max’s upcoming animated series Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai. Sandra Oh, Randall Park, George Takei and Bowen Yang will also appear as guest stars. The series stars Ming-Na Wen, James Hong, BD Wong and Izaac Wang.
Everything Calls for Salvation, a series loosely based on the acclaimed novel of the same name by Daniele Mencarelli, will premiere on Netflix in October. FX’s new animated series Little Demon premieres August 25 on FXX. Thirteen years after being impregnated by the Devil, a reluctant mother and her Antichrist daughter attempt to live an ordinary life in Delaware, but are constantly thwarted by monstrous forces, including Satan, who yearns for custody of his daughter’s soul. The series stars Danny DeVito, Aubrey Plaza and Lucy DeVito.
Paramount+’s animated series Transformers: EarthSpark announced its voice cast. The series will star Sydney Mikayla, Zion Broadnax, Benny Latham, Jon Jon Briones, Kathreen Khavari, Zeno Robinson, Danny Pudi, Alan Tudyk, Rory McCann, Cissy Jones and Diedrich Bader. The series introduces a new generation of Transformers robots–the first Transformers robots to be born on Earth–and together with the human family who welcomes them in and cares for them, they’ll redefine what it means to be a family. The 26 episode season premieres in November.
