Sarah Brown Jumps Ship To 'B&B'

Sarah Brown has joined the cast of CBS’ ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’!

The Associated Press is reporting that three-time Emmy winner Sarah Brown is joining the cast of The Bold and the Beautiful.

Brown, who’s played sexy mob princess Claudia Zacchara since January 2008, announced her departure from ABC’s General Hospital on Wednesday, September 16th. “All the news that is fit to print. Claudia Zacchara has been a wild ride, every ride stops when the music ends. The Music stops mid Oct,” the actress posted via her Twitter account on the day of her announcement. “It’s been nice being back at GH, but it’s time for the Character to come to an end, at least for me. Much love.”

The actress’ decision to depart GH was no surprise, seeing as she had been uphappy with the direction of her character for a while. The jump to B&B will mean Sarah is on the same show as former GH love interest, three time Emmy winner Rick Hearst (Whip). Rick made the jump to B&B earlier this year, a few months after GH placed the popular actor on recurring status. This also reunites Sarah with Emmy winning script writer Patrick Mulcahey, who was instrumental in creating Sarah’s break out role of Carly Roberts back in 1996 when he worked for General Hospital.

Brown will last air on GH on Thursday, November 5. The next day, she’ll debut as a new character, Sandy Sommers on B&B. Brown revealed her contract GH could have prevented her from jumping ship, but the network released her from her contract early.

“I was stunned. It was something really very human and very big of them,” head writer and excutive producer Bradley Bell said to the New York Post. “They were putting the needs of the actress, who is a mother, ahead of the network’s.” Bell also expressed the importance of the soaps sticking together. “As we see the mighty fall, like ‘Guiding Light,’ the shows that remain are communicating more and we really are in it together,” he said. “Soap operas are an American invention and an American pastime, and we don’t want them to disappear.”

Sarah signed a two-year deal with the show. She describes her character as “likable” but “destined to stir things up.” Her character will be involved in a storyline with Nick (Jack Wagner), Bridget (Ashley Jones) and Whip.
