Fans of ABC’s Scandal will finally meet Olivia Pope’s (Kerry Washington) mother. Scandal has cast veteran actress Khandi Alexander to play Olivia’s deceased mother, Maya Lewis. Are you ready for the flashbacks?

The Hollywood Reporter broke news of the actress’ casting earlier this week. Alexander will first appear during the November 7 episode (that’s tonight!) in flashbacks. Khandi Alexander’s casting comes after a major story development involving President Fitzgerald Grant and a secret mission that he (and the powers that be) want to stay buried.

Last week on Scandal, Huck (Guillermo Diaz) and Jake (Scott Foley) discovered that the conspiracy behind Operation Remington wasn’t so much who conducted the mission, but who was targeted during it. They learned that Olivia’s mother was on the plane that was shot down by Fitz…under the orders from Olivia’s father, Rowan (Joe Morton), who now heads up B-613.

Khandi Alexander is probably best known for her seven year stint as Dr. Alexx Woods on CSI: Miami (2002-2009). In 2005, the actress won an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her work on the popular CBS procedural. She also had a major recurring role on NBC’s ER, playing Jackie Robbins intermittenly from 1995-2001. Most recently, Alexander starred as LaDonna Batiste-Williams on HBO’s Treme.

Scandal airs Thursdays at 10PM/EST on ABC.
