On Monday, The CW started off the week right for fans of its freshman dramas. The Originals, Reign and The Tomorrow People were all granted full season pickups, which means their episode count will be extended from the initial 13 to 22.
The ‘Original Groupies’ have been waiting for this news for weeks since the series, a spinoff of The Vampire Diaries centered on the Mikaelson family of Original vampires, has been performing steadily in the ratings.
Earlier today, it was announced that the Live + 7 numbers from the 10/22 episode had the biggest increase on broadcast TV in adults 18-34, adults 18-49 and women 18-34. One of the show’s stars, Joseph Morgan (Klaus), took to Twitter to share his appreciation for the full season news.
You can dagger them, burn them, put them in a box, but they just keep comin' back to bite ya. #TheOriginals 22 episodes. So happy. Thank you

The Tomorrow People and Reign have held steady in recent weeks as well, but their demo numbers are below The Originals, which usually averages .9 in Live + Same Day and has risen as high as 1.7 when the DVR viewings are factored in.
CW President Mark Pedowitz released a statement to the press when announcing the pickups:
“In just a few seasons, we have built a much stronger primetime schedule. Our on-air ratings are up year to year, and our digital viewing continues to grow exponentially,” said Pedowitz. “We’re excited about the creative momentum the producers have established for all three of our new series, and now our fans will have the chance to see the full stories unfold for them this season. With the additional episodes ordered, plus two new dramas and new reality for midseason, we’ll be able to continue our commitment to adding more original programming all year long.”
The Originals airs Tuesdays at 8/7c, The Tomorrow People airs Wednesdays at 9/8c and Reign airs Thursdays at 9/8c on The CW.
