Days of our Lives stars Blake Berris, Camila Banus and Kate Mansi spoke with TVSource Magazine during the “Day of Days” fan event at Universal Studios this past Saturday. Mansi previews a new direction for her character; while Berris and Banus discuss their dramatic year.
2013 has been a dramatic year for Blake Berris (Nick) and Camila Banus (Gabi). Their characters have endured a failed wedding, blackmail, rape reveal, a baby and everything in between. We wanted to know what their most challenging scenes to film.
Berris says Nick reliving his rape was extremely difficult. “It was the most emotional scenes I’ve ever had to do, it was five episodes straight. It was the most challenging and rewarding scenes I’ve ever had to shoot.” Nick was revealed to have been raped repeatedly in prison by an inmate in exchange for protection. That trauma manifested itself in the form of homophobia towards Will and Sonny, even though his attacker was not gay.
Banus says her most challenging was the birth scene, but for reasons you might not expect – she found them to be funny.
One of the things Days of our Lives excels at is offering humor to offset some of the more dramatic storylines on the show. “I think there needs to be a mixture of both [humor and drama],” shared the actress. Berris agreed, “A balance of both. Life is joking around until something serious happens. What is up without down, you know?”
One of the questions submitted by our readers asked whether the actors experienced any difficulties working with the babies on set, something common when dealing with infants. Rest assured, that isn’t the case with these stars.
“James Scott mentioned to me it would be a nightmare and to prepare myself,” said Banus laughing. “But I have never in my life encountered babies like this!” Berris added, “They tag the right way, they find their light; it is bizarre how good they are”
While the tension between Gabi and Nick has cooled down somewhat, that will change in the coming weeks. “There is some stuff coming up in the next month, on air, that are some of the most outrageous, shocking, awesome and [will] see it coming,” Berris tells us.
“This is a monumental storyline that you can’t forget,” said Banus with excitement.
Kate Mansi (Abigail) was amused when we let her know our Twitter followers wanted to know about the “sparks” whenever she shares scenes with James Scott (EJ). “It is so funny because people say that all the time on Twitter and I am like where are you getting this from?” she said laughing. “Then I go and watch the scene [and I get it].” So would she be excited for EJ/Abby pairing? “I am not opposed to anything and love all of the cast members on our show.”
Though Abigail’s had a rough couple of months that culminated in the exit of her leading men, the soap will parlay Abigail’s troubles into a new storyline. The actress teases, “I think Abigail’s heart is really in [need of] repair and it takes her down an interesting turn. I think fans will be really surprised, some of them will love it and some will have their own opinions on it.”
