After teasing a preview of Grant Gustin in The Flash mask a few weeks ago, The CW and Warner Bros. Television have finally released the first full image of the star in full costume. How does Gustin look? One word — awesome!
Designed by three-time Oscar winner Colleen Atwood, the dark color is reminiscent of the costume from Arrow, also designed by Atwood. The Flash costume shares similarities to its comic counterpart, though it sports a darker wine-color. It’ll be interesting to see how Gustin looks in the suit in action. Needless to say, I’m quite pleased with how it turned out.
“I hope the fans who treasure the character are as excited as we are by what costume designer Colleen Atwood has achieved with this latest version of The Flash’s iconic suit,” said pilot director/executive producer David Nutter.
The Flash stars Grant Gustin (Glee) as Barry Allen/The Flash, a Central City assistant police forensics investigator who, after a freak accident, is struck by lightning and imbued with super speed. Barry was introduced in Arrow’s two-part winter finale. The origin series follows in the footsteps of other superhero adaptations Smallville and Arrow.
Other main cast members include: Candice Patton as Iris West, the female lead and quick-witted love interest of Barry; Jesse L. Martin (Law & Order) as Central City Detective West; Danielle Panabaker (Necessary Roughness) as bioengineering expert Caitlin Snow; Rick Cosnett (The Vampire Diaries) as Detective Eddie Thawne; Carlos Valdes as mechanical engineering genius Cisco Ramon; Tom Cavanaugh as “rock star” physicist and financial tycoon Harrison Wells; and the original Barry Allen, John Wesley Shipp (Dawson’s Creek) in a mysterious new role.
Arrow’s Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and David Nutter will executive produce. DC’s Geoff Johns will write and executive produce The Flash.
