The cast of TNT’s ‘Dallas’ reboot begins to take shape with a slew of recent hirings. Josh Henderson, Jordana Brewster and Jesse Metcalfe have been tapped as leads for TNT’s new primetime soap.The new series, from Cane creator Cynthia Cidre and Warner Horizon, will center on the rivalry between the offsprings of brothers J.R. and Bobby Ewing, John Ross and Christopher Ewing.
Jordana Brewster (As the World Turns, Fast and the Furious franchise) was the first star officially cast for the new series. Brewster will play Elena, the daughter of a Southfork ranch’s cook locked in the center of a love triangle between John and Christopher. The second star cast was Josh Henderson (Desperate Housewives, Over There). Henderson will play John Ross, the son of J.R.. The role of Christopher was down to Jesse Metcalfe (Passions, Desperate Housewives, Chase) and newcomer Alex Russell. Metcalfe was confirmed to have landed the role of Christopher, the adopted son of Bobby, yesterday by Deadline and the actor himself on Twitter. In addition to Metcalfe, Julie Gonzalo was cast as Christopher’s fiancée Rebecca.
Original Dallas stars members set to appear in the pilot Larry Haggman as J.R., Patrick Duffy as Bobby and Linda Gray as Sue Ellen. Hagman’s inclusion in the pilot almost didn’t happen, as the veteran was allegedly holding out for more money.
Editor’s POV: This is a very attractive cast. Brewster was a very smart casting choice. I’m happy with Henderson’s casting; he’s a fine young actor who proved what he can do on the hit FX series Over There. It’ll be interesting to see which stars make it past the pilot. Casting changes are common after the initial pilot has been shot.
