Two-time Emmy winner Cady McClain is in negotiations to return to ‘All My Children’ as fan-fave Dixie Martin.

Update: Soap Opera Digest is now stating that a source close to McClain states the deal isn’t finalized.

Well that didn’t take long! A little over a week after the somber news of All My Children’s cancellation (alongside sister soap One Life to Live), comes some good news for longtime viewers of AMC. In what is only the first of what should be many return announcements, soap hopper and two-time Emmy winner Cady McClain will return to the halls of AMC before the show goes off air this September.

According to Soap Opera Digest, the deal was already in the works before the show’s cancellation was announced. McClain was last seen as heroine Dixie Cooney in angelic form as Dixie and Stuart (David Canary) greeted JR (Jacob Young) in heaven as he battled cancer. A fan fave for decades, in 2007 Dixie fell victim to a bad batch of pancakes when the Satin Slayer poisoned her breakfast. The actress took over the role of Rosanna Cabot on As the World Turns which she had played intermittently from 2003-2010 when that show went off air. McClain also returned to AMC in 2008 for a short storyline that saw ghost Dixie help ex-husband Tad (Michael E. Knight) reunite with their daughter Kate.

Despite the last few times we’ve seen Dixie having been in supernatural form, under ousted head writer Charles Pratt, it was revealed that Dixie might not have been murdered by the Satin Slayer. Sounds like it could be time to undo the damage done by former head writer Megan McTavish. Could Dixie be alive? For the sake of giving Dixie & Tad fans a proper goodbye and reuniting an often misguided JR with his mother before the show ends, this fan hopes so. At press time, no airdate was announced for McClain.

Now that we’ve got an announcement on our first AMC return, who else would you like to see return to their old stomping grounds before the show goes off air? Sound off in the comments!
