‘Smallville’s Justin Hartley lands the male lead in pilot for The CW’s new medical dramedy.
It’s about time! The CW has finally decided to put the talents of Justin Hartley to good use, casting the former soap star in the pilot for First Cut reports Deadline.
Hartley will play a handsome and flirty surgical intern named Will, the man all women want, and who men wish they could be (or befriend). First Cut follows Emily (yet to be cast), a young doctor who is more than happy to shed her nerdy past for a fresh start in the adult professional world. Sadly and comically for her, life at the hospital where she works is no different than high school.
The hour-long series from CBS Television Studios is helmed by Gilmore Girls co-producer Jennie Snyder Urman, who also serves as executive producer alongside Dan Jinks. Bharat Nalluri is set to direct the pilot. Additional cast members include Michael Rady (The Mentalist, Melrose Place 2.0,) as surgical resident Micah, Kelly J. McCreary (White Collar, I Just Want My Pants Back) as medical intern Tyra and Aja Naomi King (Person of Interest)
Fans of the popular actor balked in January when they learned he wasn’t in consideration to lead the network’s superhero drama Arrow, based on the Green Arrow comic series. Considering that Hartley spent five years as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow on Smallville, his participation in the series should have been a no-brainer.
Those yearning for their fix of the hunky actor can catch him this spring on Hart of Dixie playing Jesse, a love interest for Rachel Bilson’s Zoe.
