WWE superstar Randy Orton will lead the troops in WWE’s third installment of The Marine series.
The Marine: Homefront is the latest edition to the franchise from WWE Studios and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Fans can look for the promotion of the new flick during this weekend’s WrestleMania 28 festivities, held at the at the Miami Dade Convention Center in Miami, FL. WWE’s biggest extravaganza WrestleMania 28 will be held at Sun Life Stadium on Sunday, April 1.
Orton will portray a Marine whose daughter has been kidnapped by a radical militia group. The solider will move heaven and earth to get her back, and to stop a terrorist attack. Homefront is Orton’s second film role, previously co-starring with Ed Harris in the WWE Studios production, That’s What I Am.
The WWE Superstar expressed excitement at the opportunity, stating on his official twitter account, “Always have wanted to do an action movie, and I’m finally getting the chance.”
Scott Wiper, director of the 2007 Lionsgate’s film The Condemned, which starred WWE alum Stone Cold Steve Austin and co-produced by WWE, was recently approached to direct the third installment of The Marine.
In 2006, The Marine was released starring WWE Superstar John Cena and earned $22M worldwide, and in 2009, the sequel, starring WWE Superstar Ted Dibiase Jr. was released direct to home video. Fox will distribute Homefront worldwide on DVD, Blu-Ray, Video-On-Demand and by digital download, while the WWE is set to promote it via its various platforms including the WWE’s own network, which is set to launch later this year.
