Days of our Lives fans will get their first peek at a returning Chandler Massey as Will Horton this Friday. Airing September 15, Massey’s first scene will air opposite his on-screen father Bryan Dattilo, who plays Lucas Horton. What can fans expect when Will returns to Salem? Get a sneak peak at this week’s promo and a clip from his first appearance.
The return of the three-time Emmy winning actor to the role he defined — the focus of the series’ critically acclaimed, groundbreaking coming out storyline, is like reuniting after a bad (and very public) breakup. After a controversial recast in 2013, DAYS opted to kill off the character two years later as part of the Necktie killer storyline, which saw Will brutally strangled to death by his supposed friend Ben (Robert Scott Wilson) in the fall of 2015.
Two years removed from that story (and the failed creative team behind it), the character is being resurrected under the creative pen of the series’ new creative team – Ron Carlivati, Sherri Anderson and Ryan Quan.
In an interview with the NY Post, Massey revealed a bit about his character’s return.
- Will’s alive, not a ghost: According to Massey, “Will certainly wouldn’t be the first person to come back from the dead. They have a medically plausible explanation.”
- Trouble for PaulSon: As expected Will’s return will impact the romance between his husband Sonny Kiriakis (Freddie Smith) and his fiancé Paul (Christopher Sean).
- Reshoots were filmed: Massey revealed he re-shot scenes originally filmed with Guy Wilson. “The scenes were very intense and required a lot of energy, but I don’t think it’s weird. When I first started working on the show, I was a recast. There’s a kid named Dylan (Patton), who played Will before me, and there were a bunch of Wills before him. So that’s just kind of how it goes, you know?”
As seen in the first clip below (the promo): Lucas is spiraling out of control and has fallen off the wagon. When confronted by his mother Kate (Lauren Koslow) about what Will would think of him, it causes Lucas to lose it even more. Later at the church, a drunken Lucas comes face to face with his believed to be dead son! But is it a fake out or the real thing? DAYS is known to use a dream sequence to set the stage for what’s to come.
