Starz’s new series Becoming Elizabeth will premiere June 12. The series centers on young Elizabeth Tudor, an orphaned teenager who becomes embroiled in the political and sexual politics of the English court on her journey to secure the crown. The death of King Henry VIII sets into motion a dangerous scramble for power. His surviving children find themselves pawns in a game between the great families of England and the powers of Europe who vie for control of the country.
Eight episode limited series The Staircase will premiere on HBO Max May 5. The series explores the life of Michael Peterson, his sprawling North Carolina family, and the suspicious death of his wife, Kathleen Peterson. Colin Firth and Toni Collette star.
Netflix’s upcoming comedy series God’s Favorite Idiot will premiere June 15. The series stars Ben Falcone, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Bibb, Kevin Dunn, Usman Ally, Steve Mallory, Chris Sandiford, Ana Scotney, and Yanic Truesdale. Clark Thompson is a mid-level tech support employee, who takes saunas with his dad, Gene, pines after his co-worker Amily, and loves his cats. When he starts to glow, he begins to realize this isn’t an average day at the office and God has bigger plans for him. Clark can’t save mankind by himself, he must gather his flock of mismatched co-workers, his longtime crush Amily and angelic allies to outwit Satan herself. Together, they’re just a bunch of average humans coming together for the greater good because, after all, you can’t save the world alone.
Freeform has announced the premise and cast for the second season of anthology series Cruel Summer. Set in an idyllic waterfront town in the Pacific Northwest, the next chapter follows the rise and fall of an intense teenage friendship. Approaching the story from three different timelines surrounding Y2K, the season twists and turns as it tracks the early friendship between Megan, Isabella and Megan’s best friend Luke, the love triangle that blossomed, and the mystery that would impact all of their lives going forward. The new season stars Sadie Stanley, Eloise Payet, Griffin Gluck, and KaDee Strickland. Paul Adelstein will recur, creating a Private Practice family reunion including Strickland and Gluck.
AMC has officially ordered Straight Man to series only weeks after announcing its development. The series is based on the novel by Richard Russo. It will star Bob Odenkirk and will premiere in 2023.
CNN+ is shutting down less than a month after the streaming service launched. The final date for the service will be April 30. On air talent and content produced for the service will likely transfer to the cable network and other streaming services like HBO Max at a later date.
FX’s The Old Man premieres June 16. The series is based on the book by Thomas Perry. The series follows Dan Chase, who absconded from the CIA decades ago and has been living off the grid since. When an assassin arrives and tries to take Chase out, the old operative learns that to ensure his future he now must reconcile his past.
Apple TV+ has ordered Hijack to series. The series is a tense thriller that follows the journey of a hijacked plane as it makes its way to London over a seven hour flight, and authorities on the ground scramble for answers. The seven episode series will star Idris Elba.
Reid Scott has been promoted to a series regular in the upcoming fifth and final season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Scott appeared in a handful of episodes in the Prime Video series’ fourth season.
Hungry for Answers will premiere on discovery+ June 8. Caroline Randall Williams explores both the known and untold history of Black food in America in the four episode series. Hungry for Answers is a food show but it is not just a food show, it is a Black food show with an ambitious endeavor to serve up a healthy dose of history with each delicious bite and sip explored.
The April 21 episode of The Late Show has been canceled due to host Stephen Colbert testing positive for covid. A repeat will air in its place, and the show was previously set to air repeats next week, making it a bit easier for the host to recover before returning to the studio.
A potential new CBS straight to series order could be coming for The Great Game. CBS has opened a writers room for the potential drama series. This would potentially bypass the traditional pilot stage, cutting costs.
Netflix’s eight episode Untitled Arnold Schwarzenegger Spy Adventure Series has added to its cast. Series regulars include Jay Baruchel, Aparna Brielle, Andy Buckley, Milan Carter, Fortune Feimster, Barbara Eve Harris, Gabriel Luna, Fabiana Udenio, and Travis Van Winkle. Recurring cast includes Devon Bostick, David Chinchilla, Rachel Lynch, Stephanie Sy, and Scott Thompson. When a father and daughter learn that they’ve each secretly been working as CIA Operatives for years, they realize their entire relationship has been a lie and they truly don’t know one another at all. Forced to team up as partners, the series tackles universal family dynamics set against a global backdrop of spies, action and humor.
MTV’s 2022 Video Music Awards will air live from New Jersey’s Prudential Center August 28. The live event previously aired from New Jersey in 2019.
HGTV has renewed Houses with History for a second season. The eight episode season stars history buff Mike Lemieux, carpenter Rich Soares and designer Jen Macdonald. The trio explore the fascinating backstories of America’s oldest homes near Plymouth, Massachusetts, and help save these remarkable centuries-old properties with stunning restorations. In each episode, they also share the homes’ unique origins and past renovation stories. The new season will premiere in early 2023.
The first season finale of CBS’s comedy How We Roll will air June 2. The network hadn’t previously revealed the finale date when it announced finale dates weeks ago. The first season will consist of 11 episodes.
Docuseries Victoria’s Secret: Angels and Demons will premiere on hulu July 14. A new episode of Nick News will air April 27 on Nickelodeon. The episode will spotlight the stories of remarkable and resilient kids who are rising to the challenges they are faced with, and are forging new and brighter futures, including a group of kids whose families have been forced to relocate to Lviv to flee the war raging in other cities across Ukraine; the members of Girl Scout Troop 6000, a specially created Girls Scouts program designed to serve girls in the New York City Shelter system; and Farmer Kendall, the youngest USDA certified farmer in the state of Georgia who is sharing the lessons she’s learned through agriculture with kids in her community.
Prime Video will become the streaming home of the Seattle Storm WNBA team. Approximately 30 Storm games will be available to Prime Video customers throughout Washington state. Additionally, WNBA coverage on Prime Video returns with 17 exclusive, nationally televised in-season games, including the second annual WNBA Commissioner’s Cup by Coinbase and the Cup Championship Game on July 26.

The Great Soul Food Cook-Off will be getting an airing on OWN starting May 6. The series originally premieres on discovery+. Hosted by Kardea Brown with judges Eric Adjepong and Melba Wilson, the series is the first ever soul food cooking competition series featuring the nation’s finest African American chefs and their inspired cuisine. The six episode series runs through June 10.
Docuseries The Big Conn will premiere on Apple TV+ May 6. The four episode series tells the unbelievable true story of larger-than-life attorney, Eric C. Conn, who defrauded the government and taxpayers over half a billion dollars in the largest Social Security fraud case in United States history. A companion podcast will also release alongside.
The History Channel’s Kings of Pain will return for a second season May 26. Wildlife biologist Adam Thorn and professional animal handler “Caveman” Rob Alleva continue their scientific journey to get bitten and stung by some of the most dangerous animals and vicious stinging insects in the world – from an Arizona bark scorpion to a Mexican beaded lizard – to create history’s complete and comprehensive guide to pain that will ultimately help save lives.
