Want a sneak peek of what’s to come on the series premiere of Deception? Check out the latest episodic stills from “Pilot,” airing Monday, January 7.
Deception is NBC’s new mid-season drama that follows the Bowers family dynasty through the opulent world of excess and scandal in which they live, starting with the death of the family’s eldest daughter, Vivian Bowers (Bree Williamson, “One Life to Live,” “Haven”).
A wealthy socialite and notorious party girl, Vivian, the heiress to the Bowers pharmaceutical empire, had been tabloid fodder for years, nevertheless the case doesn’t sit well with FBI agent Will Moreno (Laz Alonso, “Avatar”). Convinced that the troubled girl’s death was a homicide, he reaches out to his former flame and police partner, Detective Joanna Locasto (Meagan Good, “Think Like a Man”), convincing her to infiltrate the Bowers household that was once home to her– where she was Vivian’s best friend twenty years earlier — in order to investigate Vivian’s death. When Joanna appears at Vivian’s funeral, some of the family, including patriarch Robert Bowers (Victor Garber, “Argo”), and Joanna’s first love, Julian Bowers (Wes Brown, “Scandal”), embrace her, while others, including Robert’s second wife, Sofia (Katherine LaNasa, “The Campaign”), daughter, Mia (Ella Rae Peck, “Gossip Girl”), eldest son, Edward (Tate Donovan, “Argo,” “The O.C.”) and his wife, Samantha (Marin Hinkle, “Two and a Half Men”), reluctantly accept Joanna into their home.
As Joanna settles in, she quickly begins to uncover dark secrets and clues that lead her to believe that Vivian’s life was very much in danger. Torn between the lure of the old life she once knew as an extension of the Bowers family and her mission to find out what happened to her best friend, Joanna will have to live a lie to find out the truth.
Rounding out the cast is Emmy-winner John Larroquette as larger-than-life Senator Haverstock, Robert Bowers’ former best friend.
Liz Heldens (“Friday Night Lights”) is executive producer/writer; the pilot was directed by Peter Horton (“Grey’s Anatomy,” “Dirty Sexy Money”). Executive producers also include Gail Berman, Lloyd Braun, and Gene Stein. “Deception” is a presentation from Universal Television and BermanBraun.
