When Eileen Davidson (Ashley Abbott) revealed she was put on recurring status at The Bold and the Beautiful, fans couldn’t help but wonder if she and Ashley would return to Genoa City. It turns out, Davidson will be returning to The Young and the Restlessfull time on September 26th. And unlike her last tour in Genoa City, Ashley will be involved in a huge storyline (so they say).
In October, Davidson, along with Eric Braeden (Victor), Joshua Morrow (Nicholas), and Sharon Case (Sharon) will be going to Paris, France for an upcoming November sweeps storyline. The specifics of the storyline won’t be known for some time. But given the fact that Victor and Ashley were once a couple and Nick and Sharon share a child, I think it’s safe to say that the story may have some romance in it.
Davidson is a favorite amongst soap fans, having amassed a huge fan base the course of her soap career. She originated the role of Ashley Abbott in 1982, immediately becoming a front-burner character integral to many storylines. In 1991 she joined Santa Barbara as Kelly Capwell, a role she played until the cancellation of the series. In 1993, Davidson joined Days of Our Livesas Kristen Blake, eventually playing four more characters on the soap before departing in 1998. Due to her work as Kristen (and the other characters), Eileen was nominated for a Daytime Emmy in 1998 for Outstanding Lead Actress.
In ‘99, Davidson returned to her signature role where she stayed until 2006 when her contract wasn’t renewed. In an interview with TV Guide’s Daniel Coleridge, Davidson was asked if Y&Rlet her go, the actress responded, “Right. Well, my contract’s up, so I guess they’re not picking up my option. But as far as I’m concerned, I got fired!”
Davidson later brought the character of Ashley over to Y&R’s sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful.
