Deadline is reporting that Prospect Parks has secured deals to allow them to move forward with production plans for cancelled soap operas All My Children and One Life to Live. Is a rebirth for AMC and OLTL finally on the horizon?
According to Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva, the company, headed by Rich Frank and Jeff Kwatinetz, recently revived plans to bring the soaps back after signing a deal with SGA-AFTRA and DGA. The company licensed the rights to AMC and OLTL in July 2011, hoping to begin production on the shows for their online network (called The On-Line Network) at the beginning of 2012. Those plans would fall through just five months later when they failed to come to terms on a deal with the major entertainment unions. In addition, the company had difficulties finding funding for the projects.
Deadline reports preliminary discussions have begun with former AMC and OLTL stars.

My Take: If this is handled properly this time, then it’s great news for fans of both shows. If Prospect is serious going forward, they need to be open with their plans and make themselves available to interviews with the press. There are a lot of questions from fans and the media that need to be addressed including but not limited to:
– Who is funding the project?
– What will be the production model? Daily? Weekly?
– Are there plans to possibly syndicate the episodes on a cable network?
– Do you have the infrastructure to feature the episodes online? Or will you partner with established portals like Hulu or Netflix to distribute your content?
– What is the status of TOLN?
– Will the project be monetized?
– Will actors have the freedom to take outside work?
– How will you streamline production to fit your new financial reality?
