It’s Official! Jon Lindstrom Returning to ‘General Hospital’

It’s a Port Charles reunion! After a nine-year absence, fan favorite Jon Lindstrom returns to “General Hospital” on January 30.

Lindstrom will reunite with his longtime leady lady, Lynn Herring, who recently returned to the soap as the lovely Lucy Coe. He’s expected to play a big part in the soaps’ upcoming storyline involving Lucy and her time on GH’s defunct sister soap, “Port Charles.”

“The last we knew, it was implied at Lila’s memorial that Lucy had reconciled with Kevin, and that they were together,” said head writer Ron Carlivati to ABC Soaps In Depth. “And we did see a picture of him on her desk at CoeCoe Cosmetics. So the big question is, where is he and why hasn’t she mentioned him? Lucy gets herself into a pretty major jam during February sweeps and, when that happens, she receives a surprise visitor. That is Kevin. When he arrives, you’ll find out why you haven’t seen him yet, why she hasn’t mentioned him and what is the status of their relationship.”

Lindstrom joined GH in 1992 when he originated the role of sociopath Ryan Chamberlain. One year later, he would go on to play Ryan’s twin brother, Dr. Kevin Collins. After Ryan’s death in 1995, Kevin continued to be a factor in Port Charles and would for almost the next decade. Lindstrom and Herring’s popularity resulted in their characters being chosen to anchor the General Hospital spinoff, Port Charles, in 1997. They would remain major characters on the show until its cancellation in 2003. The actor reprised the role once more for a guest appearance in 2004.

The actor returned to daytime in 2008 when he joined the cast of “As the World Turns,” taking over the role of the nefarious Craig Montgomery. There, he would reunite with former GH/PC cast members Julie Pinson (ex-Eve), Herring and Stuart Damon (ex-Alan).

During an interview with Lindstrom in 2009, he told TVSource Magazine his reasons for not returning to GH. “I wound up walking the picket line with a few of the GH writers during the long strike (I’m a big Guild supporter), and that opened up the door to start talking about returning to the show. I only had one requirement: I did not want to go backwards. And they – one terrific writer, really – came up with a great idea that I would have done had the timing worked out for everyone. Turns out it wasn’t.” The actor went on to say he wouldn’t rule out a return to GH, providing it was under the right circumstances.

Lindstrom is the latest high-profile return as the series approaches its 50th anniversary. Yesterday, it was announced that Genie Francis would reprise her role as Laura Spencer in February. 2012 saw the returns of many fan favorites — Finola Hughes, Tristan Rogers, Robin Mattson, Sean Kanan, and Ian Buchanan!

Also… We hear Lindstrom may not be the only PC face to show up on GH. Rumor has it that Erin Hershey Presley (ex-Allison) may be coming to the show as well…
