Routh who portrayed Superman in 2006, will not return as the Man of Steel due to Warner Brothers deciding to ‘reboot’ the persona of Superman and will not be going with the original plans that were set in place for the sequel to “Superman Returns.”
According to a recent interview with the New York Times, Jeff Robinov, Group President from Warner Bros., “‘Superman’ didn’t quite work as a film in the way that we wanted it to,” says Mr. Robinov. “It didn’t position the character the way he needed to be positioned.” “Had ‘Superman’ worked in 2006, we would have had a movie for Christmas of this year or 2009,” he adds. “But now the plan is just to reintroduce Superman without regard to a Batman and Superman movie at all.”
With the high profits from the recent release of “The Dark Knight”, Robinov wants to follow along the same lines of tone by exploring the dark side of all their DC Comics characters. Over the next three years, Warner Bros. has plans to release 4 comic book films which will include a third Batman film, a new film reintroducing Superman, and two movies focusing on other DC Comics characters. Movies featuring Green Lantern, Flash, Green Arrow, and Wonder Woman are all works in progress for the future.
Brandon Routh portrayed “Seth Anderson” on ABC’s One Life to Live from 2001 to 2002.
