The much heralded return of Rebecca Budig’s Greenlee Smythe is quickly coming to an end. With her one year contract coming to an end in January, the New York Daily News is reporting that Budig will not renew her contract.
All My Children is not commenting on her contract status at this time.
Budig returned to All My Children last January with a lot of fanfare and controversy. ABC’s marketed her return as “The Real Greenlee,” while then portrayer Sabine Singh was still on the show. Since her return, Greenlee has been prominently featured on major storylines, embroiled with storylines revolving around Fusion and her friendship with Kendall (Alicia Minshew). Greenlee’s also been involved in a love quadrangle with Ryan (Cameron Mathison), Annie (Melissa Clare Egan) and Aidan (Aiden Turner).
Budig’s return marked the beginning of many returns of fan favorites to Pine Valley including Debbi Morgan (Angie Hubbard), Darnell Williams (Jesse Hubbard), Laurence Lau (Greg Nelson) and Rickey Paull Golden as the new Jake Martin.
Budig’s soap career started in 1995 as Michelle Bauer on Guiding Light. After departing GL in 1998, she headed to AMC ’99, staying until November 2005. Budig is happily married to former Bachelor star Bob Guiney.
Also on her way out, Amanda Baker (Babe).
