“One Life” Taps Newcomer Josh Kelly as Joey Buchanan
After what seems like has been a lifetime of searching, ABC’s One Life to Live has finally found an actor to play the long missed role of Joey Buchanan. Newcomer Josh Kelly will debut in the contract role beginning Wednesday, November 24. Kelly is a former Army Ranger who served 3 tours in Afghanistan and one in Iraq.
Kelly was up against stiff competition from notable soap stars such as Austin Peck (ex-Brad, ATWT; ex-Austin, DAYS), Brody Hutzler (ex-Patrick, DAYS) and Matt Borlenghi (ex-Brian, AMC) according to Soap Opera Digest. Daniel Cosgrove (Scott, AMC; ex-Chris, ATWT et al) was a name oft suggested for the role as well.
Though Kelly is a newbie to daytime, this isn’t the actor’s first taste of the soap genre. In 2006, he appeared in numerous episodes of MyNetwork TV’s primetime telenovela series Desire as Felix. He’s also had numerous guest primetime guest spots, appearing on shows such as Moonlight, CSI: Miami, True Blood, NCIS: Los Angeles and FlashForward. In 2009, he appeared in the blockbuster film Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Kelly also stars in the new horror film The Portal starring Michael Madsen, Stacy Keach, Nicholas Brendon and The Young and the Restless Michael Muhney (Adam).
Joey’s last appearance in Llanview was an unhappy one, as the Buchanan clan gathered for Asa’s funeral in August 2007. Asa’s funeral saw Castle’s Nathan Fillion reprise the role for those two episodes. Prior to that, Bruce Michael Hall played Joey from 2003-2004.

Contract Extensions for OLTL’s Head Writer & Executive Producer
TVGuide Magazine’s Michael Logan reports that ABC has come to terms on new deals with One Life to Live’s executive producer Frank Valentini & head writer Ron Carlivati. Valentini’s deal keeps him around for another two years, while Carlivati’s is expected to keep him around through 2013.
Valentini began his career at OLTL as a stage manager in 1985. He recently celebrated his 25th anniversary on the show. He has served as executive producer since Gary Tomlin’s (now Days of our Lives co-executive producer) exit in 2003.
Two Stars Out
Jason Tam (Markko) and Terrell Tilford (Greg) have been given their walking papers.
Tam joined OLTL in 2007 as Markko Rivera and was soon paired with Brittany Underwood’s Langston. Tam recently returned to the show after a temporary departure over the summer to participate in the Public Theatre’s Summer Shakespeare Lab.
Tilford debuted in 2009 as Greg Evans, a super doc brought in to perform miracle surgery on Matthew (Eddie Alderson). After the departure of his love interest Rachel (Daphnee Duplaix), his screen time was significantly reduced until he became involved in the Tea Delgado (Florencia Lozano) storyline.
