Renewals for CW's 'One Tree Hill,'Nikita'; End of the Road for 'Hellcats'

The CW finally revealed plans for the future of three of its shows. Long running series One Tree Hill will return for its ninth season this coming season, rumored to be slated for midseason replacement.

While high cast turnover have plagued the series (most recently the departures of original cast members Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton in 2009), it’s been a mainstay on The CW since the end of the WB.

Also picked up is Maggie Q’s Nikita. The action drama has been a solid performer on the low rated network, skewing a high demo for young viewers and men.

Hellcats, a series following the lives of competitive college cheerleaders, will not return for a second season. The Tom Welling-produced drama failed to garner much buzz or ratings throughout the season.

The full schedule for The CW will be revealed on Thursday.
