The Young and the Restless has cast American Idol alum Diana DeGarmo in the contract role of mob princess Angelina.
The Young and the Restless is boosting up its younger set with the casting of American Idol season 2 runner up Diana DeGarmo. TVGuide reports the singer/actress will play the contract role of “Jersey-girl” Angelina, the apple of her mobster father Angelo’s eye. DeGarmo will report to set to begin taping next week and is expected to air in late October.
The former Miss Teen Georgia placed second during the third season of American Idol in 2004, losing to Fantasia Barrino. She released her debut album, Blue Skies, in December 2004, selling a dismal 47,000 copies in its opening week, peaking at #52 on Billboard. To date, the album has sold 168,000 copies. Her debut single Dreams, debuted at #14 on the Billboard Hot 100, though placed #1 on the US Billboard sales chart. Post-Idol, DeGarmo’s made a name for herself on Broadway, appearing as Penny Pingleton in Hairspray and Sheila in Hair. Her credits extend off-Broadway as well in the production of The Toxic Avenger and portrayed the role of Doralee Rhodes in the national tour of 9 to 5.
