Finola Hughes returns to ‘General Hospital’ as Anna Devane, just in time for February Sweeps…and she’s sticking around!
TV Guide Magazine broke news today of the pending return of fan favorite Finola Hughes (Anna) to General Hospital. The actress begins taping mid-January and will first air sometime in early February. GH says the actress’ return is “recurring, but front and center. Finola will be on our canvas for a while and [will] be very involved with Robin [Kimberly McCullough] and Patrick [Jason Thompson].”
Hughes’ return comes as on-screen daughter Kimberly McCullough prepares to wrap up her tenure on the soap. Last month ABC confirmed the Emmy winning McCullough would depart the show in early 2012. “Kimberly McCullough has decided to pursue her dream of directing full-time so she has decided to leave General Hospital as storyline dictates,” said a show spokesperson at the time. “Expect a poignant and must-watch storyline for Robin and Patrick.”
While Anna’s return does factor into Robin’s exit, Soaps In Depth reports the secret agent will be sticking around “long-term.” The last time Anna visited Port Charles was for Robin and Patrick’s marriage and the birth of her granddaughter Emma in 2008.
Will Robin’s sometimes estranged father return as well? Hopefully…
My POV: Yay Finola! It’s nice to see Ron Carlivati and Frank Valentini start things off on the right foot. Robin’s exit will be a painful one for many of her fans and the return of her parents would definitely help cushion the blow. The fact that Finola will be sticking around past Kimberly’s exit pleases me. What could the new GH team have planned for her? Hopefully
