TNA Impact Wrestling announced it would air live episodes of its weekly “Impact Wrestling” show throughout the summer beginning Thursday, May 31.
Not content with just airing at an earlier time (As previously announced, TNA Impact Wrestling will be moving to an hour earlier time slot ) , the company also plans to air live episodes of its weekly program as well. Announced today by TNA President Dixie Carter and SPIKE TV’s President Kevin Kay, the highly rated SPIKE TV wrestling program will be going LIVE from Universal Studios, Orlando, Florida, starting on May 31.
“We are excited to take IMPACT WRESTLING Live! all summer long, and have our first Live! summer show launch our new 8:00pm/ET time slot,” says TNA President Dixie Carter. “Summer of 2012 is going to be remembered as the most momentous time in our company’s history-to-date. Stay tuned.”
This is the second time the company has done as series of live TV shows. In 2010, TNA iMPACT! (as the show was then called), aired a special live episode on Monday, January 4, 2010. It was the first time since March 2001 that featured two major wrestling promotions airing opposite each other. The 1/4/10 episode drew the largest ratings ever for TNA, and that March, the company would move the show permanently to Mondays, airing live shows every other week. Unfortunately for TNA, they were no match for WWE’s flagship program, Monday Night RAW. Less than two months later, iMPACT! returned to its Thursday night timeslot.
It is unclear for just how long (summer is kind of vague) the live shows will last, and it remains to be seen if the live concept will continue into the fall.
