Christel Khalil is Leaving 'The Young and the Restless'

3

Emmy winner Christel Khalil is out at The Young and the Restless after 10 years of playing the role of Lily Winters.

Speculation about the actress’ possible departure began earlier in the week when there was a casting call for an African-American woman in her mid-20s who is “vivacious, energetic, ambitious; a mom balancing work and family. She’s had her share of tough times, but always bounces back from even the most trying situations.” Rumors started flying that the description sounded a lot like Lily.  While there has been no official word from the show on Khalil’s exit or the possible recasting of the character, Khalil’s website confirmed that the actress was leaving and not by choice.

“Rumors can be such an ugly thing so here is the answer floating about the internet: Christel Khalil is indeed leaving The Young and the Restless.” The post on the actress’s site went on to say, “It is not her decision to leave. An agreement could not be reached during contract negotiations.”

Khalil’s website post went on to say that there is no end date at this time for her last appearance on the show. The site also asked fans who were unhappy with the decision to reach out to the powers that be for the show and express their displeasure.

The 24-year-old actress, who won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Younger Actress this past June, has picked up several award nominations during her tenure on the show. In addition to three previous Emmy nominations, she has also six Image Award nominations (one win) and was nominated twice for the Young Artist Award. Khalil left the show once before in 2005 and the role was recast with Davetta Shorewood before Khalil returned in 2006.
