General Hospital has found its new Lulu Spencer Falconeri! Young and the Restless star Emme Marcy Rylan (Abby) has landed the role of Luke & Laura’s daughter. Soap Opera Digest confirmed Rylan will replace Emmy winner Julie Marie Berman, who taped her final scenes last week.

The 32-year old Rylan is no stranger to recasts, having assumed roles played by other actresses twice in her career. In 2006, she took over the role of Guiding Light’s Lizzie Spaulding from Crystal Hunt; after GL’s cancellation in 2009, she then played Abby Newman on The Young and the Restless. This is her third role as the daughter of a supercouple.

Soap Opera Uncensored editor Nelson Branco foreshadowed the news last night on Twitter, writing: “I’m hearing Y&R and GH may be announcing some big news soon. Sounds like a soap hop may be in the works.” This morning, Daytime Confidential’s Jamey Giddens published a rumor report, indicating his sources were telling him Rylan was near to signing a deal with GH.

Emme Rylan rose to popularity as Y&R’s fame-hungry heiress, winning audiences over with her charm and vulnerability. Fans were extremely disappointed when the actress was fired by Y&R’s new executive producer Jill Farren Phelps last fall. She recently returned to the soap in a recurring capacity.

TVSource Magazine reached out to General Hospital for comment. “We are not revealing airdates at this time,” said a rep for the show.

My Take: Awesome news! It’s no secret I’ve been a fan of Emme Rylan’s for years. Rylan is a strong, dynamic actress who’s more than capable of playing Lulu’s complexities. I’m hoping she has chemistry with Dominic Zamprogna; I’d hate for Lulu and Dante’s marriage to end from a lack of chemistry.

Welcome to GH, Emme!

  1. Completely miscast from the word go. This is not a reflection on her as a person outside of the GH set. Her skill set and abilities fall far below the standard that Julie Marie Berman gave us for this highly complex and nuanced role as the legacy daughter of Luke and Laura.

  2. don’t really care for her but since Julie is gone we just have to get used to her at first she sucked she is getting better now

  3. love it!!!!!!!!
