Exiting General Hospital fan favorite Kelly Sullivan (Kate/Connie) took to Facebook to comment on her departure from the ABC soap.

Hours after reports of the actress exit from General Hospital was confirmed by Soap Opera Digest, Kelly Sullivan addressed her exit on her official Facebook fan page and cleared up rumors that her exit was related to a contract issue

Her full message is below:

Thank you all so much for your support and loyalty. You are my life long family and I cannot express how much I appreciate each of you. You have really made my experience here on GH a wonderful adventure.

I wanted to fill you all in on the details and try to answer some of your questions.

– I am not returning to GH after August.

– This is not a contract issue, I have been written off the show.

– I do not have any information on potential Daytime opportunities.

Lastly, I have no ill feelings towards any of the staff or crew connected to the show or the network. I will miss everyone dearly.

Love, Kelly

It is unknown at this time if General Hospital plans to recast the role again.

My Take: I am extremely upset with this news. Whether you’re a fan or not, you cannot dispute that Kelly Sullivan carried General Hospital in 2012 and took everything that was thrown her way. She faced an uphill battle taking over a role that was already popular but she made it her own and she excelled. The DID storyline that should have been treated as a serious matter was completely mishandled and it damaged the character. But the integration of Kate & Connie posed the opportunity for the character to rebuilt.

What’s even more confusing is the decision to write her out before the Connie/Sonny/Olivia triangle even began. I don’t support this decision AT ALL. Kelly Sullivan deserves better. A hell of a lot better. Totally ridiculous.

  2. Kelly Sullivan is a huge reason this show was a success… She is a major part of GH…. Reconsider!!

  3. That totally sucks. I love Kelly Sullivan as Connie. I couldn’t stand the Kate character before she came along and took over the role. And she did a wonderful job playing the character with D.I.D. Good luck to her in the future

  4. Miss Sullivan was done a disservice not just because she was hamstrung by certain aspects of the DID storyline, but also because RC and FV did not know when to stop with this part of her characterization. There were so many missed and wasted opportunities to rebuild this character, especially since this young woman proved herself more than capable of handling the heavy dramatics inherent with the mental afliction portrayed. And, like Julie Marie Berman (yes, even though she chose to leave), they are letting another powerful actress get away. The glowing lustre that was once a given for GH is tarnished once again. And leads me to question even more whether the people in charage really know what they are doing. Sad…

  5. Completely agree. This is a big loss for me. I loved Kelly and her portrayal of Kate/Connie. Outstanding actress! I hope she gets picked up somewhere else ASAP.

  6. I agree with everything you are saying here, Omar.
