Comic-Con 2013: What’s next for ‘The Vampire Diaries’?

The cast of one of our favorite CW shows gathered at San Diego’s Comic-Con over the weekend and gave us a few hints about what to expect in season 5.

Season 4 ended with a handful of cliffhangers: Katherine received the cure, Elena chose Damon, Silas took Stefan as his shadow self, Jeremy came back to life, and Bonnie died. We were all left anxiously waiting for October, so we could pick up with our favorite gang from Mystic Falls. Check out the full thirty-minute panel below featuring showrunner Julie Plec and producer, Caroline Dries along with castmates Ian Somerhalder (Damon), Nina Dobrev (Elena), Paul Wesley (Stefan), Candice Accola (Caroline), and Kat Graham (Bonnie).

Just in case you’re dying to know what you can expect, here are some of the highlights touched on during the Q&A session:

1. Katherine’s catching one of the most annoying things humans can get: the common cold. The former vampire isn’t too keen on dealing with the sniffles, especially when it involves phlegm – ew!

2. Bonnie will be our eyes to the other side. Some fans were upset when Bonnie died at the end of season four, but Plec was quick to assure fans that she would still be a regular castmember next season. Now that Bonnie is permanently stuck in the afterlife (and thanks to Jeremy’s ability to see the dead), she’ll give us all a look into what life in the afterlife is really like. Bonnie is also going to try and keep her death a secret for as long as possible. What will happen when her friends learn she’s dead? Plec promises it’ll be very emotional as will watching Bonnie learn to accept her own death as well.

3. The gang is going to college! The cast made lots of jokes about pursuing higher education, but didn’t divulge anything too specific. Elena and Caroline will be adjusting to a normal collegiate life as vampires – and they’ll be roommates! Caroline’s main goal will be convincing Tyler to enroll, so they can be together. Whether or not that happens is yet to be seen.

4. Will Caroline visit Klaus? When asked about Klaus returning to Mystic Falls, Julie teased that he’d have his hands full with whatever is going on in New Orleans. However, Caroline may not always have her hands too full to visit him. (Be still my Klaroline loving heart!)

5.Silas flashbacks will happen, providing viewers with a look at what turned Silas into the monster he now is. Meanwhile, Paul is very excited to portray the bad guy. Julie actually told him about the role early on and swore him to secrery.

Now that those tidbits have wet your appetite, sit back and press play on the video below from Clever TV to see the entire panel. Trust me, you don’t want to miss the behind the scenes talk or the joking between the castmates, as well as more spoilers regarding Damon and Elena’s future, Jeremy coming back to life, and a bloodbath.
