‘Arrow’ Preview: 7 Teasers from ‘Blast Radius’

When Arrow returns from its midseason hiatus next week, the action in Starling City picks up five weeks after the events of the last episode. As Arrow scours the city for the identity of the man in the skull mask, Oliver has no idea that the man he’s supporting as a mayoral candidate is the person in question.

But Sebastian Blood does not have everyone fooled. As “Blast Radius” gets underway, Laurel has been spending time with the councilman and realizes that something is not adding up when it comes to his past. Unfortunately, she faces an uphill battle in convincing others that he might not be the savior they think he is.

The hunt for the man in the mask takes a backseat for Arrow when a new villain shows up and begins setting off bombs in the city. Based on DC Comics’ Shrapnel, the bomber complicates things for everyone as Team Arrow scrambles to figure out who this man is and why he’s determined to turn Starling City into a war zone.

Since The CW sent us a screener as an early Christmas present, we can share some teasers with fans anxiously awaiting the new episode. As always, there are only so many details we’re allowed to divulge because we don’t want to ruin all the surprises the episodes has in store.

Check out the following seven teasers as well as the ones we gave away in the photo preview and then hit the comments and share your thoughts and theories with us. Are you looking forward to the episode?

1. We find out early in the episode what happened to Barry after he was knocked unconscious. While he doesn’t actually appear in the episode, his presence is felt in more than one scene.

2. A somber moment on the island leads to one person wanting to make an important confession.

3. Laurel’s pill problem is revisited and another character drops a clue as to how far it has progressed.

4. A minor injury at an inopportune moment leads to suspicion.

5. More of Sebastian’s past is revealed and Oliver is not the only one singing his praises. Another character is ready to board Team Sebastian.

6. Tension seeps into the Arrow Cave when Felicity makes a mistake. But is the error the real problem?

7. In an action packed episode, at least two main characters, one man, one woman, find themselves in need of rescue…but not in the same scene.

Arrow returns Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 8/7c on The CW.

  4. I am really looking forward to this story arc for Laurel, it is just the next step in her becoming the Black Canary. Seems like we’ve had to wait for ever for this story line to progress, as all season it has been the slow decline as she nears rock bottom. I think it might be Adam Donner who provides another clue to drug problem. As the drug she uses is a sedative then I think this will be important if she receives a dose of that Mirakuru in future episodes. As for Laurel being a Lois Lance, the one thing that she has in common with Lois Lane is the super hero love interest, but Dinah Laurel Lance is also a super hero in her own right (well she will be). So that will make her even more desirable to Oliver Queen/Green Arrow – as per the comic book canon. He does love her in those fishnets.

  5. But I think I read somewhere that Dig goes to the rally and Felicity tries to free Oliver. So I’m thinking that Oliver is definitely one of the people of course, and maybe Felicity but in another situation? Or perhaps It’s someone on the Island?

  6. Damn, woman. lol.

  7. Wow. Um, Ok. Clearly some fans are unfamiliar with the concept of “discussion”… or sharing thoughts and varying view points.

Speaking of condescension…I apologize that my point of view has offended you for some reason. I can’t imagine why you would be prompted to be so rude towards an actually human being over a discussion of a fictional character. And while I’d love to sit here and delve further into your motivation for such behavior…I’d literally rather do my nails and watch the paint dry.

  8. Funny you should say that because Felicity has done her fair share of saving Oliver. While I find Laurel finds herself in quite a bit of a pickle. But then it seems that she has Black Canary being her Knight-in-Shining Black Leather versus Felicity’s Shining Green Leather.

  9. It seems 5 people would disagree with you:

  10. I just loooove it how your first two condescending paragraphs go directly against what you state in the third one.

Go away with your hate. No one cares.

  11. Here’s my bet: Oliver and Felicity will be the ones in need of saving, the first from a motion-sensor bomb and the latter from the rally.

  12. Wow this all sounds good. I’m excited about Arrow’s return and it really left off on such a great hook. Can’t wait for Team Arrow to be back in action and I wonder what mistake Felicity makes. Hmm. Tension in Team Arrow, huh? Interesting. Love the team though, so hopefully they’ll figure it out and stick together.

  13. Wow! Can it just be 15 January already? Seriously missing this show. It has NOTHING to do with Felicity and Oliver though … really :)

  14. Ok, here goes. I’m so indifferent to Laurel. She’s so bland that I can’t even work up the energy to hate her. I just simply do not care about her. I’ve been given no reason to. So from here on out, she will be referenced as “Those we do not speak of”.

Anyway, I’m really looking forward to Arrow’s return next week. That is how much I’m loving the show. I have to admit I was a little disappointed that we haven’t seen anything on Slade in present day in the spoilers, but I suppose through Sebastian Blood we’ll see some of his handy work. The Barry stuff is interesting. Five weeks later? Hum, I wonder if Ms. Smoak is just now returning from being by his side? As for her “mistake”, again, interesting. No idea, but it must be big. Or maybe not, maybe Oliver just overreacts because her attention is no longer focused solely on all things team Arrow at the moment. Sounds like good stuff for Olicity fans. :-)

As for “Those we do not speak of”, I’m guessing we’ll see more pain, more woe is me, more…oh whatever. I’ll just respect that she too has her fans and we should all have something we love about our show. As for us with no use for “Those we do not speak of”, hey, is there really any show out there that we love 100%? There are always aspects we could do without, and that is the category I’m placing the chick we don’t speak of in.

  15. That’s what I’m thinking.

  16. Please, writers DO NOT make Laurel the Lois Lane of this series. You already have that with Felicity!
