TVSource Magazine: What’s going on with you on the show at the moment?
Mishael Morgan: Right now Hilary is about to get married to Neil and she is wondering if she is making the right decision. She has two guys vying for her and she has feelings for both of them.
TVSource Magazine: How do you find Hilary’s motivation when playing a love triangle involving a father and son?
Mishael Morgan: I really look at it like anyone else going through something like that, a torrid love affair. I feel like at the end of the day it, always comes down to love, respect and appreciation. I focus on that and working with the other actor. Anything can happen. We say it is a soap opera but it happens in real life. It is about love and wanting to be loved.
TVSource Magazine: Soap production is unlike other forms of entertainment. How did you prepare yourself for what was to come with The Young and the Restless’ production style?
Mishael Morgan: I was coming out of pilot season at that time so I was already nailing them out; I could read a script one time and know it, so I felt like I was ok. For me, with primetime and feature stuff, it is one camera, so you know when you are doing your close up, your wide shots and so on. On soap operas they are all on you on all times so you need to make sure your angles are on. You can’t dumb [your performance] down because they are doing a close shot.
TVSource Magazine: When working on soap opera, you get to share scenes with multiple co-stars. What’s your approach for nailing the right chemistry?
Mishael Morgan: I think it is a very sensitive thing. For me, I do different things for different actors. I came from series and features where you didn’t get a lot of time to get to know your co-stars beforehand, so I would look them up and get to know them and that would help me. In the soap world it has been awesome because you do work together all the time and I have been able to get to know Kristoff & Bryton really well and I think that that helps.
TVSource Magazine: I know you were a longtime fan of the show, but was anyone else in your family a fan before you joined?
Mishael Morgan: My mom has watched Y&R since before I was born. She calls me every single time to talk about what happened [laughs].
