From the red carpet at the 2014 Daytime Emmy Awards – Interviews with Days of our Lives stars Joe Mascolo and Lauren Koslow.
TVSource Magazine’s West Coast Editor, William Dallman, attended the 41th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, CA. Days of our Lives stars Joe Mascolo (Stefano) and Lauren Koslow (Kate) spoke with TVSource Magazine on the Daytime Emmy red carpet. Mascolo reveals how he came to be on DAYS; while Koslow talks about the Kate and Sami alliance and how important it is for the women.
TVSource Magazine: When you joined Days of our Lives, did you ever think you would be on the show for as long as you have?
Joe Mascolo: Never! I was doing a play with Burt Reynolds and the woman who was the producer on DAYS kept bugging me to come to the show and I thought, “Who the hell are they?” [Laughs]
The producer said “He’s it for this role,” so I was curious and went and met with them. They were wonderful and smart and I afterward I said, “Okay. Let’s do it for a week or two,” and they said “No, it’s got to be at least a year!” And that is how it started. I’ve left and come back and left and come back [so many times] over the years I’ve lost count [Laughs].
TVSource Magazine: Did you ever turn down an offer to return to the show?
Joe Mascolo: Oh yeah. Once I thought [what was pitched] was really too stupid.
TVSource Magazine: Hell has officially frozen over! Kate and Sami have teamed up to bring down the DiMeras. What’s your take on the former enemies turned allies?
Lauren Koslow: It is a really rich development in their relationship and for their individual characters as well. We filmed this about five month ago and Ali {Sweeney] and I have been just waiting for the audience to finally see that reveal. The fact that they teamed up and put a lot of the animosity behind them [is fantastic]. They are both very strong women and to work together to accomplish the plan they had given their history is going to make for great TV.
TVSource Magazine? What’s Kate’s motivation for agreeing to help Sami?
Lauren Koslow: I think for Kate it is all about family, and they are family. What is happening is that Sami is going through a similar crisis that Kate went though.
TVSource Magazine: Can you tease anything about Kate’s plans for her new rival, Jordan?
Lauren Koslow: For months now, Kate has been trying to track down the truth about Jordan. She finally gets a lead and goes and checks it out herself. We have a whole new story that is going to develop out of that. This summer is going to be hot!
