The identity of Days of our Lives’ Red Necktie Killer is revealed!

Weeks after the murderous spree of Salem’s Necktie Killer began, Days of our Lives has revealed the identity of the killer to fans in the Thursday, September 24 episode. It turns out good guy Ben Weston (Robert Scott Wilson) is the one behind it all! Or so it seems. It wouldn’t be Days of our Lives if there wasn’t another twist set to happen somewhere down the line.

“They dropped it on me that Ben was the killer,” said Robert Scott Wilson in an interview with Soap Opera Digest (on sale now). “I ran with it because I got what I wanted: a chance to play Ben in a total arc, taking him from one set of character traits to a completely different type of person. From an acting standpoint, it was very rewarding. It was great to have some real, tangible information about Ben’s backstory and seeing the character given more depth, no matter what direction it took.”

The actor went on to praise the change in creative teams, crediting new writers Josh Griffith and Dena Higley; and new co-executive producer Albert Alarr taking the show in a different direction that was “more gratifying as an actor.” Wilson says the last four months have been the most fulfilling of his career. “On a soap you don’t always get the chance to have them write for you, but they really did write for Ben.”

Why would Ben, who’s always come to the defense of women in abusive situations, become the very thing he supposedly hates? He’s always been a bit hot tempered, and in recent months his jealousy over his girlfriend Abby’s (Kate Mansi) relationship with Chad (Billy Flynn) has seen his rage build to explosive levels. One thing is for certain, his motive is quite clear – frame Chad DiMera.

The Victims

  • Serena Mason (Melissa Archer) killed August 27. Last seen getting wasted with Chad at Club TBD. Everything seemed to be going well until she rebuffed Chad’s advances. Was found strangled in the park by Eric.
  • Paige Larson (True O’Brien) killed September 8. Last seen arguing with Chad in Horton Square. It turns out Paige saw something that may implicate Chad in Serena’s murder. Was found strangled in her dorm by JJ.
  • Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) attacked September 24. Recently conducted a session with Chad to help him recover his memories from the nights of the attacks. Was in her office when the attacker struck.

The killer’s attack on Marlena failed thanks to Chad’s intervention. Unfortunately for Chad, Marlena believes he is the culprit because he was the last face she saw before passing out. Had Chad screamed for helped when he broke up the attack, maybe things would have turned out differently. Where would the drama be in that?

At the end of episode #12682, Ben listens to a news report about the APB issued for Chad. Ben takes out a box hidden underneath the bed; inside is a smaller box with red ties, black gloves, black mask and yellow flowers from the DiMera Mansion — the same flowers found that implicated Chad in one of the murders. Feeling as if his work is done, Ben grabs all the evidence, places it in a bag and tosses it in the water at the docks!

  1. I need to get caught up on Days!

  2. Hopefully this means that Ben is on his way out of Salem; the character never clicked with the soap, and not a fan of Robert Scott Wilson at all.
