I watch a lot of television, probably too much. But can you really watch too much TV? I've yet to find out. Anyway, I especially love TV when they give us positive portrayals of gays, something that has gotten better but we're still fighting for. I've written about gays in television for many years first at the much missed After Elton, then New Now Next and now at TV Source. It's kind of a passion of mine and I look forward to sharing it with you.

  1. Anthony, have you heard about the show Skam about high schoolers in Norway? It’s absolutely amazing – they post clips, texts, social media updates on the show’s website in real time. Then they put all the clips together into an episode on Fridays. Season 3 (currently on air) is following Isak as he explores his sexuality and falls for the delectable Even. SO worth a watch! And the clever use of the website makes you obsessed with when you’ll find out more – the refresh button is getting a lot of use. Really recommend you check it out :)

  2. Emmerdale: Truth be told, I don’t believe for a minute that the boys would buy that suicide story from Emma about James. Especially not Finn. Pete, maybe, but even he isn’t that stupid. As far as Rebecca goes, she is in many ways a cross of Robert and Chrissie, so of course she’s bound to backstab Robert eventually. That said, though, it was kind of slapdash the way it happened. Maybe it was the editing?

Hollyoaks: Like many fans, I too have gotten sick of Ste and his BS. That said, though, it seems he’ll always be seen as the victim no matter what – or even who writes for him. Setting Ryan up as a serial cheater recently helped prove that theory entirely, especially when he was such a not-quite-perfect-but oh-so-close gentleman in the beginning.

Holby City: The recent episodes with Dom shows that old habits have a shocking way of coming back at times, though I’m glad he and Isaac are back on. Isaac so far especially has proven to be some kind of positive influence, even when he himself has flaws.

  3. I have stopped watching Empire. The show lost me early in season 2. I had stopped watching HTGAWM, but have been watching this new season. I just didn’t have time to discuss it in the column with so many other shows to keep track of.

  4. I just wanted to say I’ve been reading this column for years and have always loved it even when I have a different opinion like for example I love robron but I’ve always agreed with you on ste I can’t stand him and how the show always acts like he’s a victim he’s the reason I stopped watching hollyoaks I also agree on how stupid the Sonny Paul story on days is I have to ask you don’t watch empire of how to get away with murder anymore

  5. After all that Ronnie has seen just in the past week I don’t know why he would want to be with Lawrence. Ronnie is a good guy. He could never tolerate what goes on in that family. I can’t see it lasting. Yet, maybe Ronnie could be a positive influence on Lawrence. And I think it would be awesome to have an older gay couple on tv. Hell soon Emmerdale might have three.

  6. Ronnie should run even if Lawrence acknowledges that he is gay. At least Lukas on Eyewitness can blame the closet for his bad behavior. Lawrence routinely acts despicably because he has the money to avoid consequences.

I’m bored with Robert and Aaron’s repetitive fights where their underlying incompatibility surfaces but then is quickly swept under the rug. Characters need to grow.

Finn seems like the smart one, but his interactions with guys are a bit unusual. His one night stand with Aaron is the most normal thing he’s done.
