The Bold and the Beautiful is bringing back the infamous Spectra family! As seen in today’s episode, Courtney Hope (Transparent) debuted as Sally Spectra, the great-niece of notorious Forrester family rival, Sally (played by the late Darlene Conley). How will the return of the Spectras shake up the show?

The new Sally won’t be the only addition to the show. As exclusively reported by TV Insider’s Michael Logan, soap veteran Patrika Darbo (Nancy, Days of our Lives) will play Shirley, sister of the original Sally and grandmother of the new young Sally; Broadway alum Alex Wyse (Spring Awakening) will play the grandson namesake of Spectra’s infamous tailor Saul (played by the late Michael Fox); Modern Family actress Danube Hermosillo will play the new generation’s Darla (played by Schae Harrison), Darlita. Also returning is Mick Cain as Sally’s son TJ.

Logan spoke with head writer/executive producer Bradley  Bell on the decision to introduce this new batch of characters. “Well, with B&B having its 30th anniversary on March 23, I’ve been thinking about ways to play into our great history. We always need new, fresh characters that pack a punch and no one packed more punch than Sally Spectra. So we’re bringing back the Spectra gang.”

Bell previewed their story, revealing Sally has aspirations of being a desire just like her great aunt Sally. Bill Spencer (Don Diamont) makes an offer on the old Spectra Designs warehouse, now owned by CJ, because he wants to build a new skyscraper. Though CJ’s uninterested in the fashion business, he gives his cousin an opportunity to make a name for herself and resurrect the brand – with a six month timeline.

He says this new group of Spectras will “definitely play dirty” but Sally 2.0 wants to the business to be legitimate, unlike her great-aunt’s company which routinely made knockoffs of Forrester Creations and stole their designs.

  1. The prospect of this storyline could be amazing, especially since I do believe this could take us away from the endless love triangles. But, I do worry, if this is putting a damper on the late Darlene Conley’s memory of Sally Spectra. Courtney Hope is a cute actress, but she felt forced into the whole Sally Spectra thing. Plus, Darlita? Really? Couldn’t be a bit more original, Brad? This reminds me of when we brought in Linsey Godfrey as Caroline Spencer, who I do miss in the role!
