Gays of our Lives – The Object of Finn’s Obsession on ‘Emmerdale’

5

In this week’s Gays of Our Lives:

  • Finn and Kasim get back together on Emmerdale, but with Finn’s obsession over Kasim getting worse, will they stay united?   While, Aaron’s jealousy about Robert and Rebecca spins out of control.
  • Toby is unable to deal with his feelings for Adil on The Halcyon, but will a family crisis push him Adil’s arms?
  • On Nashville, Will faces the truth about his relationship with Kevin, forcing Will to make a life altering decision.
  • Robbie and Gary’s woes continue on River City and Gary might have had enough of Robbie’s behavior.
  • And on Neighbours, David’s denials about his sexuality grow deeper propelling him to make a decision he could live to regret.

All this, plus the latest on People of the Valley, The Haves and The Have Nots, Shortland Street — and so much more.

Emmerdale  (U.K.)

Finn called the police?  Okay, I admit I didn’t see that coming.  But why didn’t we see Robert’s reaction?  Or learn of Finn’s reason why he called the cops?

I wish Finn weren’t so obsessive and clingy about Kasim.  They could have been really good together if Finn would take a few steps back and let the boy breathe.  And now Finn needs to accept he is the reason why Kasim wants nothing to do with him.  At this point, Finn has become a  stalker. To be fair, Kasim’s father would probably cause trouble for them, but at least Kasim would be on Finn’s side rather than pushing him away.

I did like Emma pointing out to Finn that obsessing over things runs in the family.   Lady knows herself at least.

Robert was a bit nasty during that fight with Aaron at Home Farm, but he was right.  Aaron’s jealousy is the problem, not anything Robert’s done or doing.   And also he’s right when he said he can’t make Aaron happy.  Aaron is clearly punishing himself, just like he’s done on the past, which is why he got in that fight, then refused to do anything to help himself.

I’m glad Robert told Aaron he’s going to find other people attractive.  That’s just being human.  Aaron needs to accept that.

I don’t why this show is revisiting Chas and Paddy again.  She’ll only cheat on him the next chance he gets.  I like the cop that’s interested in Chas.  I wish the show would play that relationship.

Nashville (U.S.)

Will and Kevin’s breakup made perfect sense to me and is probably one of the most realistic things to happen in Will’s storyline.  Will is still newly out and Kevin was his first boyfriend.  I know fans still think gay characters should be with the first guy they kiss forever, but I’ve always hated that trope.  Will should be dating and meeting guys and seeing what’s out there.  I’m assuming he’ll be running into Jakob Fine again and I look forward to that.  This was a intriguing development for a character that was stagnating for a very long time.

As for Kevin, I really don’t think the writing served him well.  Given he and Will’s history, he was far too trusting and naive about Will.   He said he knew Will wasn’t ready for a serious relationship, but nothing in Kevin’s behavior said he believed that.  Anyway, I liked Kevin, but Will is the main character here.  See ya.

BTW, has Chris Carmack been working out.  Sure looks like it.  He’s always been buff, but he seems massive this season.

Neighbours  (Australia)

Never ceases to amaze that the foreign soaps feature multiple gay and lesbian storylines on their shows and it’s not a big deal.  The US soaps are fleeing from telling such stories.   Neighbours has gays and lesbians on the canvas.  And it’s supposedly a conservative show.

Why would Jack think Paige and David were dating?  I guess Jack forgot that a few weeks ago David came to him because David couldn’t deal with the fact he might be gay.

David is not an OBGYN, so should he really be giving Paige the okay about her baby?

I do think that David and Paige make good friends.  Maybe she can help him finally come out.  I did like that scene where he said ‘I’m not gay’ and she said ‘yeah, and I’m not pregnant’.

Brad is still the hottest daddy in soaps.

I think Aaron even thinking of turning down a job, which he is always struggling to get, because it might make Amy uncomfortable being around Leo is ridiculous.  It’s not like Amy and Leo ever really dated or were even serious.  She needs to get over herself.

I watch a lot of television, probably too much. But can you really watch too much TV? I've yet to find out. Anyway, I especially love TV when they give us positive portrayals of gays, something that has gotten better but we're still fighting for. I've written about gays in television for many years first at the much missed After Elton, then New Now Next and now at TV Source. It's kind of a passion of mine and I look forward to sharing it with you.

  1. Well shortland Street just got interesting! Cam and Jack are official!

  2. Anthony? Do you have any information on “Le Chalet”? I can’t seem to find any clips or episodes for the new season (3) anywhere on the internet. The only thing I have been able to find are a few episodes from season 2 where Francis (Felix-Antoine Tremblay) and Will (Julien Hurteau) have some interaction, and I have seen some episode promos from season 3 that tell me Will is still in the picture.
I don’t speak enough French Canadian to figure anything more out about it, but you always seem to have the inside scoop on all of the shows, so I thought I would ask.

  3. ok i’m the only one who root for Ste and Warren, i wish that Darren was a least bi.

  4. This week on “General Hospital”, we saw Brad at the Floating Rib waiting for Lucas. Oh Brad, it’s gonna be a long wait. It’s insane that Lucas and Brad haven’t been in a scene together since JUNE.

  5. The Friday episode of Emmerdale gave me deja vu with Aaron locked up for assaulting someone and being all mopey about it and with Chas and Paddy in the waiting room arguing. Funny thing is that it was a good kind of deja vu because Aaron’s story was interesting back then even though he was even more frustrating. It also reminds me of Jackson’s observation once about how much Aaron loves the angst.

I don’t like this new side to Finn but will acknowledge that at least he has an identity now. I was prepared to like him with Kasim but am re-thinking it. Really, Kasim could do better for himself – just like Robert could.
