When Sam steps away to get his self under control, he follows his instincts, and the bloody trail, and finds skin goop in the bathroom. Ugh. I know what that means: Shape shifter. Boo. Meanwhile, Shapeshifter Freud is chastising Dean for upsetting Sam, making Jack terrified of him, & directing his anger over their losses at everyone around him. Kudos Shifty! Before she can heal my boo bear’s damaged psyche, Sam busts in and exposes her as a shifter. She denies murdering anyone and I kinda believe her. She guesses her abusive ex is doing this; she’s totally right.
Dean & Jack leave Sam to follow up on a lead, while Sam stays with the counselor. But when Dean returns, Sam is gone. Next thing you know, the abusive ex shifter looks like Dean (once again, I feel compelled to say DUH. I’d choose his face too.) and the real Dean is unconscious on the ground (NOT cool!).
Meanwhile, the counselor has shifted into Kelly so Jack can get some closure. It’s actually really sweet. Until Shifty Dean knocks out Jack and peels off the sexiest skin he’s ever worn! Idiot. He’s just as creepy and psychotic as the counselor described. He handcuffs Dean to the fireplace. Not exactly where I’D handcuff Dean, but to each their own. Anyways, Dean tries to encourage Jack to use his powers but Jack can’t. Sam arrives and Psycho Shifter prepares to shoot him as soon as he walks in the door. Sam in danger is all it takes for Jack to channel his powers and gravity toss that jerk across the room and change the direction of the bullets. Sam reacts quickly and shoots the shifter. They saved the day, because they always do. I love them.
Back at the bunker, Dean tells Jack he did good and as a smile of joy spreads across Jack’s face, I am beyond giddy. I knew my boo would come through! He even brings Sam a beer and apologizes for his recent douchery, and admits Jack may not be all bad. Sam barely registers this and wonders if their mom really is dead. Dean pleads with him not to lose faith because right now, Dean doesn’t believe in anything anymore and he needs Sam to believe enough for the both of them. My heart! I can’t deal with the emotions!
Ok, so I waited to the end to discuss this next part, because it was my absolute favorite. Woken by Jack, Castiel is wandering around in a big black empty. It’s just an empty space, filled with nothingness, except for some weird black oil like blob that forms into a Castiel clone. He explains that before God created life & worlds, there was just nothing. And when angels and demons die, they go there, where they sleep peacefully forever. And as long as they sleep, he sleeps, and he REALLY wants to sleep. Cas is the first anything to ever wake up in the Empty. He’s pretty pissed. But the most important takeaway from this is the accent that Misha Collins uses as the Empty creature king or whatever. It’s amazing and I love it but also cringe while still loving it! I don’t know what made him go with it, but brav-effing-o! Also, kudos to Cas for being annoying & stubborn enough for the Empty king to boot his ass back to Earth. Yay!!
I can’t wait to see how the brothers and Jack react to Castiel’s return. What was your favorite part of the episode?
When Dean is in pain he usually reverts to this less than pleasant behavior. I give him a pass every time because he always self-corrects. In the meantime he is prolific with his sarcastic one-liners and I love it. I loved Jen’s recap because of her side comments on Dean. She is a Deanophile like me. Loved this episode very much. Jack’s smile was a highlight for me. Oh yeah, and Cas’ return is really cool too.
Loved the Castiel part I though Misha was just fantastic. I just was riveted by his characters. The empty Cas was interesting but scary. I loved and hated him. I loved the episode mostly because of Misha I cant wait either till Cas meets up too with them. I love Sam and Dean but their part was predictable and it was nice Dean complemented Jack at the end.
