TV Source Podcast EP 13: GH Reaction – Buddy Hijinx, Schemers, Triangles & Couple Controversy

1

The source crew is back with another soap edition of the TV Source Podcast! We had two week’s worth of topics to get through, leading to a supersize taping. Rather than force you to listen to HOURS (and there were hours) of footage, our producer broke it down into two parts and left some on the cutting room floor. We’ve brought the sass, humor and heated discussions in this taping to share with all of you!In part one of this episode, we’re talking all things General Hospital. A new career path for Lulu has our team excited, even if it seemed to come out of left field; Nelle is pregnant (shocker), but is she long for the world? The meat of the two Jasons story is beginning to take shape with Sam being torn between two men, we discuss her options and Franco and Elizabeth’s engagement.

The rundown for the episode taped December 17th, 2017:

Hosts: Ashley, Coryon, Johnathon and Ryan

  • Lulu and Maxie finally have some fun with stink bombs and breaking and entering – and it’s entertaining! It’s nice seeing Lulu have fun and new job seems to be leading to a meatier story for her with discovery of rigged election ballots.
  • Nelle reveals she’s scamming for two after being exposed. Do we buy anything she’s selling? Why hasn’t anyone offed her yet? Ryan makes a shocking admission, but Johnathon takes things a bit too far. Ashley and Coryon are having NONE of it.
  • With the truth out, Sam is torn between two brothers. Though she’s doing her best to reaffirm her love for an insecure Drew, but is she being too cold to Jason? Some say so. Our hosts debate Sam’s actions, and her central role as the show’s heroine. Coryon wants more “Carly” in Kim, and he and Ashley criticize the GH for adding an unnecessary element to an already good storyline with Kim and Oscar.
  • The backlash for Elizabeth and Franco’s relationship grows louder on social media, but Ryan comes to their defense. Is Franco the worst person for Elizabeth? Our hosts debate that question and lay out their reasons yay or nay.

Episode Run-time: 51 minutes

  1. Hello! I just started listening to your last three podcasts and just finished the most recent on #GH. I follow 3 of the 4 soaps, B&B just doesn’t interest me lately. I wanted to first say that the podcasts are really insightful and entertaining, and I like that you have diverse points of view which does reflect the viewership.

Just as a comment on the discussion about #Friz, I think the only thing I would add as someone who is a fan of the pairing, is that many of us who are find the entire discussion about Franco’s redemption rather beside the point on a soap that features mobsters as not only its protagonists but also as its moral centre. Every character on the show has been a rapist, conman or a murderer, I think with the exception of Liz. Hence, I see no issue with Franco. In fact, he is the only one I can think of who is truly remorseful and reflective on his crimes. Crimes which in fact were medical in origin.

I would say for those of us who have rooted for the pairing from early on, it is the smart writing, wonderful acting of RoHo and Becky, and their obvious chemistry, that attracted us from the start. RoHo for me at least, and many of the #Friz folk, is by far the most dynamic and most interesting male actor on the show. And Becky, well, always transcendent. They may be polarizing, but they are also very popular.

The one criticism I have for GH still, though it is much better, is that this is and likely will always been the Carson/Jasam show. I know most of you are Jasam fans (I like Sam, dislike the Jasons), though I love that you all think CarSon are on too much, and mostly hate Nelle and Oscar. I do think GH needs to keep working at improving the balance, keep the story telling diverse, another reason why #Friz has fans. We are not all about Sam and the rest of the foursome. I love so many characters on this show, past and present. I need to see them in story.

Thank you all so much, I will keep following your podcasts, and wishing all of you a very HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!
